Carinya Society – Disability Support Worker, Casual

We are looking to grow our casual pool. We are seeking proactive and passionate individuals who have experience in supporting people living with a disability, and also enjoy the flexibility that comes with being a casual. 

About us

Carinya is a community-based organisation which has been in operation since December 1952. We provide outstanding services to individuals with disabilities and aim to facilitate choice and support. We value each individual as an integral part of the community in which they live.

About the role

Our Disability Support Workers are responsible for providing a high quality service and implementing a range of program plans which are in line with both individual participant and group goals. They will demonstrate the ability to provide exceptional active support to the participants. Our Support Workers will develop and maintain relationships with families, carers and other relevant organisations. They will also be able to accurately record daily and weekly records of individual goal development in a timely manner. As we pride ourselves in our values and vision and we are looking for someone who will uphold the same standard. 

Key Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated capacity to provide high quality care and service 
  • Experience working with participants who have behaviours of concern (preferred)
  • Experience in the use of Manual Handling Aids and Equipment and principles of No Lift Techniques (preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience communicating with families and record keeping 
  • Demonstrated accountability and ability to act with clarity and sensitivity in relation to client issues.
  • Exceptional time management and ability to manage expectations.
  • Ability to problem solve with schedules, timetables and workload. 
  • Computer skills including use of internet and email and Microsoft Office (preferred or willingness to learn).
  • Disability or community qualifications (minimum Certificate IV in Community Services or equivalent; essential).
  • Current Level 2 Workplace First Aid, or willingness to obtain.
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to obtain light rigid license driver’s certificate (preferred).
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain.
  • Current Police Check, or willingness to obtain.
