THE ROLE:
We currently require casual Mental Health & Disability Support Workers available for Supported Independent Living & Community clients based in and around Mackay.
This role will involve:
- Provide tailored support to clients with complex mental health conditions.
- Assist with daily living activities, including personal care and community participation.
- Implement and support clients with coping strategies.
- Manage and document intense emotional outbursts and impulsivity.
- Adhere to and implement restrictive practices as required.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, including incident and behaviour reports.
- Ensure professional boundaries are maintained at all times.
- Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for clients.
- Building and maintaining trusting and meaningful working relationships with our clients, their circle of support and the community.
- Assisting in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans that enable our clients to set and achieve personal goals.
- Facilitating community inclusion and participation and supporting our clients to establish and maintain relationships and interests through access to community activities, venues, and services.
- Encouraging positive and socially appropriate behaviour, and effectively manage challenging behaviours.
- Providing personal care where required and personalised support in accordance with the personal plan.
ABOUT YOU:
You will have a passion for working with people with disabilities with an understanding and commitment to a person-centered model of practice.
Previous experience in and knowledge of the disability services industry and an ability to work flexible hours, with a willingness to work a variety of shifts, with a variety of clients is a must.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Cert III Disability (or working towards), or experience in Disability Support.
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate. (Or willing to obtain)
- Experience with Manual Handling.
- Reliable transportation for Community Access & Participation.
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate.
- Queensland Provisional or above Driver’s Licence.
- Current Paid Working with Children Check (Blue Card). (Or willing to obtain)
- Current Paid NDIS Workers Screening Card (Yellow Card). (Or willing to obtain)
- Previous experience with intense emotional outbursts and impulsivity in clients.
- Proficiency in implementing coping strategies and restrictive practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of professional boundaries.
- Certificate iii Individual Support (or equivalent or willing to obtain)
- Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to work across a 24/7 roster, Shifts are 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm and 10pm-6am
