Job description

  • Part time (0.8 FTE) ongoing position
  • Salary based on experience, range: $97,922 - $122,400, pro rata plus super
  • Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model

About the role:
In this newly created role you will collaborate with legal partners and lived experience experts to develop and deliver training for staff, as well as information and education for consumers and stakeholders about MHLRS, and their rights under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic). Additionally, you will project manage and coordinate activities including co-design and co-production initiatives for the development, review, and evaluation of education, training, and resource materials supporting the delivery of the Mental Health Legal Rights Services model, ensuring key tasks and deliverables are achieved. Finally, you will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to help make a difference in the lives of our most Victorians.

This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country

About Mental Health Legal Rights Service (MHLRS)
The MHLRS is a new legal service model that has been co-designed with people with lived experience of mental health issues (consumers) and a range of other stakeholders. It is a coordinated, consumer-centred collaborative service model between VLA, Mental Health Legal Centre (MHLC) and Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) to increase legal assistance to consumers with hearings at the Mental Health Tribunal, which will be implemented in 2023-2024.

About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • An understanding or the ability to quickly gain an understanding of mental health law and practice, including at VLA, and the ability to interpret changes to the law and their impact on mental health law practice.
  • Lived experience or experience working with lived experience experts to co-produce or co-design services and resources. An understanding of the challenges faced by those accessing mental health and related systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in scoping and supporting the delivery and evaluation of community legal information, Education and Training to people from diverse communities and backgrounds.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to clearly convey technical information and ideas to a wide audience, including people from different backgrounds using plain language.
