When families have to travel far from home to receive specialised medical care for their sick child, seeking accommodation in an unfamiliar place only adds to their stress and anxiety. The Role:
A rare opportunity exists to join the Education Services team at RMHC Westmead. The Ronald McDonald Learning Program (RMLP) serves two functions:
- Provides funded tuition and educational support to children to help them catch up on missed education once they return to school after serious illness.
- Delivers professional development to teachers to help them re-integrate seriously ill children back to the school environment.
The role of Education Coordinator provides case management, liaison and advice services to schools and families to support students from K-12 returning to school following serious illness and hospitalisation, typically managing a caseload of 40+ students. It is not a teaching role.
This role will suit applicants who can confidently navigate the school system and leadership, advocate for students, use a database and associated ICT to carefully record interactions with families, is willing to be trained to deliver professional development workshops for teachers and enjoys working collaboratively with young people.
The Education Coordinator also assists the Education Services team to deliver programs and support to seriously ill children and their siblings in-house whilst they are staying with us.
The Candidate:
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector working with families, schools, health professionals and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement, sensitivity and assertiveness in supporting students and families who are managing a range of academic, physical and personal pressures.
- Exemplary written communication, record keeping and ICT skills (Microsoft Office and database/CRM experience preferred)
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills, group work delivery skills (Particularly with children of school age)
- High level of organisational, administration, collaboration and time management skills including the ability to work effectively under pressure, both independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of and commitment to child protection, WHS and privacy legislation.
