RMC-E is playing a central role to implement Plan Galileo, which sets out an ambitious but achievable reform program for surface fleet sustainment. Realising the Plan will ensure Defence can support the significantly larger and more complex fleet of vessels that results from Continuous Naval Shipbuilding. It will also enhance Navy’s agility and ability to surge from strategic locations across Australia, particularly to key operational areas in the Pacific.
Development of sovereign sustainment capability is key, so Defence has the workforce, systems, tools, supply chains and infrastructure to support the future fleet. The team will oversee the maintenance provider for a new Defence regional maintenance centre, co-ordinating and scheduling maintenance for Navy vessels, as well as building resilient local and regional supply chains working with large, distributed and high profile team. RMC-E will contribute to the delivery of continuous sustainment to the complex naval capability resulting from Continuous Naval Shipbuilding and ensure Navy respond to changing operational requirements.
