Due to the commencement of an internal Project, we currently have an exciting 12-month fixed term opportunity for an Acting Employee Relations Team Leader to join us at our Perth Office.
This position is accountable for supporting the development of Western Power’s Employee Relations Strategy as well as leading a team responsible for providing strategic and high-level technical guidance, advice, and support to the business on complex employee and industrial relation matters.
You will work closely with the People & Performance Manager to embed a contemporary, competitive, and flexible Employee Relations framework that aligns with the overarching business objectives and People Strategy.
About this role
Accountabilities within this role include:
Provide ongoing proactive engagement with key internal stakeholders to support the development, implementation, execution, and maintenance of a relevant and dynamic Employee Relations Strategy with accountability for its implementation and execution.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to understand the key initiatives required to develop, implement, and embed strategies to achieve appropriate Employee Relations outcomes
Responsible for leading, managing and developing the Employee Relations team to ensure provision of strategic, high‑level and legislatively compliant technical guidance, advice, and support to the business on complex employee and industrial relations matters
Cultivate a positive and strong team culture by providing regular input, support, and guidance to team members and nurturing professional development
Ensure business unit compliance to all legislative requirements, company policies and commitments via Human Resources policies and governance, as well as relevant Enterprise Agreements
Lead and manage industrial and Employee Relations matters including disputes and Fair Work claims
Advise, guide, and support the Employee Relations team to service business units with all matters relating to Employee Relations and people issues such as disciplinary concerns, performance management, attending employment tribunals, grievance, and absence management
Support the People and Performance Manager in an Employee Relations capacity with preparation of documents and monthly reports for SLT, Executive and Board as well as briefing notes for the Minister’s Office
Support the development of Employee Relations frameworks and ensure compliance and effective application of Western Power’s employment obligations
Support the implementation of industrial and Employee Relations frameworks through collaboration with the broader Human Resources team
About you
We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:
Tertiary qualifications in HR/IR or related discipline
Advanced, broad, and demonstrated industry knowledge and expertise of the current industrial landscape (industrial laws, dealings with union representatives)
Comprehensive understanding of key industrial legislation and contemporaneous case law
Significant experience in supporting the development of industrial relations frameworks and strategy in a highly unionised environment
Demonstrate the ability to manage strategic issues and resolve complex problems with a high degree of autonomy, and independent judgement
Experience with negotiating and interpreting EBA's and Awards
Effective negotiation skills and the ability to forecast, identify and problem solve critical issues.
Demonstrated senior or Team Leader experience within a professional Industrial/Employee Relations environment
Experience managing an Employee Relations or similar HR team
