We are Carbonix, a provider of disruptive aerial data capture solutions though drone technology across a targeted range of industries. Our business is growing strongly, and we need an experienced Head of Flight Test Engineering Manager to join our team to take our current opportunities to the next level.
Who are we looking for?
The Head of Flight Test Engineering reports directly to the CEO and comprises both strategic planning and execution across the various flight test engineering streams and development programs within Carbonix.
Your responsibilities will be:
- Develop, implement and manage UAV and flight test programs and projects
- Conduct system design and integration for UAV systems
- Perform analysis of test data and provide recommendations for system improvements
- Coordinate test schedules and resources for UAV and flight test programs
- Driving the Flight Test Engineering & Development process from concept to market deployment.
- Managing the flight test engineering team supporting manufacturing and commissioning, including technical management, people management, quality assurance, financial tracking and reporting.
- Effective management of resources in a safe, economical, and efficient manner to achieve the required business, performance, financial, environmental and safety outcomes.
- A core focus on continuous improvement and lean manufacturing best practices, to optimise the end quality of the product and performance of the team.
- Consulting with team members, Project Managers, Engineers and other technical members to ensure clients requirements are met.
- To oversee the management of multiple projects and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Work through the concept, design, estimating and negotiating process with client and appropriate key personnel to finalise contracts.
- Manage the ongoing development of staff by providing a coaching / mentoring role that encourages professional and personal growth in both breadth and depth.
Essential Experience & Skillset:
- Minimum 5 years' engineering related experience with 2 years' managing a small/medium Flight Test Engineering division in an unmanned aerospace company.
- Bachelor's degree in industrial or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience in aerospace engineering field, in lieu.
- A proven track record with flight test protocols, equipment/ systems.

- Mechanical and aeronautical design experience end to end from 1st principles.
- Ability to effectively manage, motivate and train staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Project management experience is an asset
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise have the right to work in Australia.
