As the Engineering Manager for Transmission & Distribution in NSW, the successful applicant will hold a central role in the service delivery and growth of WSP's national Transmission & Electrification group. You will lead your people and project teams to deliver on engagements from high-level advisory work to conceptual design and detailed design. You will play a leading role in driving WSP Energy's growth in NSW.

The successful applicant can be based from any of our New South Wales locations and manage the Engineering team in-person and remotely. Opportunity exists for the Engineering Leader to grow WSP's business through recruitment and expanding further into Energy clients.

Our Energy team helps clients maintain secure and reliable power supplies, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and deliver future energy schemes to help our cities transition to a more sustainable world. Our team has expertise in solar, wind, hydropower, thermal energy, waste-to-energy and bioenergy, battery storage, Transmission & Distribution and systems and automation.

What you'll do:

  • Project manages/leads engagements in the fields of Transmission & Distribution for clients/industries.
  • Uses experience to guide and execute engagements from high-level advisory work to conceptual design and detailed design.
  • Interprets clients' requirements and delivers efficient, constructable and safe engineering solutions to meet the to meet the project needs.
  • Collaborates with other leaders and staff in other Energy groups (Generation, Renewables) to build seamless, combined teams.
  • Leverages WSP's international capability to supplement local capacity with specialist resources, e.g., overhead line electrical design.
  • Supports emerging markets, e.g. offshore wind.
  • Manages the team of electrical engineers and is responsible for resource allocation.
  • Coaches and guides team members from graduate to senior level in engineering design and project management.
  • Identifies needs for team growth to support capability building and project delivery.
  • Leverages professional networks to attract and recruit new team members.
  • Undertakes review of work by other team members; is responsible for quality of outputs from the team.
  • As both Project Manager and Project Director, is responsible for client satisfaction and satisfactory delivery of projects delivered by the team.
  • Identifies, pursues and converts opportunities for new and repeat business (with support from others in the leadership team).
  • Directs, prepares, collates and submits bids and proposals with a clear value proposition to maximise success rate.
  • Contributes to strategy for the broader national Transmission & Electrification business.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability in the team, and of striving to meet commercial targets.
  • Responsible for meeting target financial KPIs for the team.
  • Takes a leading role in safety-in-design initiatives across Transmission & Electrification nationally.
  • Drives a culture of safety and focus on wellbeing for all staff.
  • Complies with all role-specific SHEQ obligations.
  • Undertakes occasional regional or interstate travel for site visits.

About you:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Engineering registration (via CPEng, CEng or equivalent) if required in the state(s) of practice.
  • Experience in the Transmission & Distribution industry.
  • Demonstrated competence in design and engineering for Transmission & Distribution or heavy industrial applications (primary or secondary systems).
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching experience (people and/or projects).
  • Demonstrated experience in business development and bids/proposals, and a desire to win.
  • Demonstrated experience in project delivery as Project Director or Project Manager.
  • Commercial acumen.
  • Demonstrated commitment to highest standards of safety, professionalism and ethics.
