Engineering Manager, Waddle, x15ventures
Our Purpose
Waddle helps Australian businesses unlock cash tied up in unpaid invoices, enabled via a digital platform powered by real time data. Our mission is to build a world class invoice finance platform to support Australian businesses with their working capital needs.
Waddle is a cloud based invoice finance platform which connects to accounting software in real time, powering CBA's digital cash flow product, Stream Working Capital. The Waddle team is in an exciting period of accelerated growth following a recent acquisition by x15 ventures. We are looking to build a team of talented technologists who are passionate about supporting Australian businesses access innovative working capital solutions.
How you'll make an impact
You will play a key leadership role in supporting, developing and coaching a team of enthusiastic engineers who run the Waddle platform in addition to liaising with key stakeholders across the value chain.
This role sits on the Waddle leadership team and reports directly to the Waddle Managing Director and requires excellent collaboration with the Senior Engineer Manager.
What you will do day-to-day
Support, coach and develop a team of engineers in running the Waddle platform including maintaining a resilient and scalable platform. This includes playing a proactive leadership role in transitioning the Waddle team into x15ventures.
Ensure the team maintains exceptional incident and support management in line with predefined service agreements.
Participate in product proposition sessions to provide insights, ballpark estimates and guidance to product and always have an appropriately sized and relevant backlog for the team
Maintain a close relationship with Product on their roadmap and strategy
Help to maintain solution architecture and highlight any areas that require input from other specialists
Use your knowledge and lived experience of best practices to ensure that accessibility, performance, and other engineering concerns are of the highest standard
Provide continuous feedback to team members and be a contributor to continuous improvement for Waddle and our stakeholders
Identify and correct operational bottlenecks
What you will need to be successful in this role:
Prior experience in leading high performing software engineering teams
Hands-on experience operating in a high-availability and automated technical environment.
Experience defining and building secure solutions and architecture using Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot and React.js
Hands-on experience with release processes and CI/CD pipelines
Exposure to infrastructure as code tools like CloudFormation or Terraform
Exposure to containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes being used in production environments.
Experience in managing internal and external stakeholder expectations.
Experience with monitoring and alerting tools
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a bias towards action.
Passionate about designing and operating highly available systems in AWS environments for robustness and automation.
Positive team player that can work collaboratively.
Able to connect in a meaningful way with technical staff and non-technical stakeholders.
