About the role
We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Engineer/Engineer to join the Operations Planning team. This role will see you provide detailed engineering, analytical, programming support to solve challenging technical problems, participating and contributing to projects that improve the operation of the power system in AEMO’s Operations Division.
This role will also be integral in supporting the ST PASA (Short-term Projected Assessment of System Adequacy) Replacement Project – a comprehensive review of the pre-dispatch (PD) and short term (ST) PASA methodology, exploring the development of a system that will serve the NEM now, and into the future.
This role can be based in Melbourne, Sydney (CBD or Norwest), Brisbane or Adelaide.
What you will be doing
- Perform complex computer-based network analysis to identify issues/violations on the interconnected National Electricity Market (NEM) and provide operational advice and instructions to the Real Time Operations team
- Assess planned network outages in the short term (ST) timeframe and over multiple regions to identify and determine any corrective action required for identified system security and reliability issues
- Provide key analytical and technical input related to the preparation of operational analysis, advice and instructions to the Real Time Operations team and key stakeholders
- Review the provision of short-term reserve assessment to ensure timely publication of relevant accurate information.
- Provide analytical input and detailed knowledge to working groups, consultations, projects, and carry out specific investigations as appropriate and review draft reports as required
- The successful candidate may be required to assist in both after hours and/or some duty manager role as appropriate
What you will bring to the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (preferably in Electrical Engineering with a power system focus) or equivalent relevant discipline
- Proficient use of programming languages (Python, SQL etc), analytical software packages and Microsoft Office product suite
- Understanding of the power system with the ability to apply this knowledge to solve technical problems
- Competency in the use of network analysis tools
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written and prepare technical reports.
