About the role
We are seeking a sustainability/ESG specialist to join our organisation, where you will play a vital role in building and improving our ESG data capabilities, systems, and tools. We are looking for someone that is passionate about sustainability and can help us achieve our purpose which is to “create value, sustainably, from grower to consumer.” This role will be part of the People & Culture team and support the development of Mackay Sugar’s sustainability reporting to ensure our ESG profiles align with Australian regulatory framework and the overarching Nordzucker Sustainability Strategy. This role will have the opportunity to interact with colleagues in other countries as required.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Work closely within a highly collaborative team setting, participating in and sometimes leading, strategic initiatives.
- Work with internal stakeholders to align reporting mechanisms and processes to deliver streamlined sustainability reporting against internal and external reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant sustainability/ESG regulations and guidelines, including NPI, NGERs and other reporting.
- Build and maintain databases, tools, and analytics to monitor and improve ESG metric, proactively implementing corrective measures.
- Ensure accurate timely ESG data reporting for regulatory deadlines and internal reporting requirements whilst maintaining quality through validation processes.
- Stay informed about emerging ESG legislation, trends, benchmarking against industry peers, and driving innovation and differentiation.
- Foster a culture of sustainability and ESG awareness among employees, encouraging engagement in sustainability initiatives.
To succeed in this role, you will:
The type of skills, experience, and personal attributes we are looking for include:
- Tertiary qualifications in environment, sustainability, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines.
- Knowledge of ESG and datasets will be highly regarded.
- Proficiency in data analysis with the ability to use and manipulate large data sets and extract relevant insights from these.
- Demonstrated understanding of ESG strategies and policies and their application.
- Ability to interpret relevant legislation and apply where relevant.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to create clear, comprehensive ESG reports and presentations.
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to provide recommendations and action as required.
- Ability to collaborate cross functionally to stakeholders of all levels and drive outcomes and manage change to support the implementation of ESG initiatives.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to a changing environment.
