Melbourne and Olympic Park has an incredible opportunity for an Event Coordinator and Functions Lead to join our fun and dynamic CENTREPIECE team. This position will offer the opportunity to manage the delivery of premium events at our iconic precinct and provides a great opportunity for someone to further develop and enhance their skills in this space.
Our amazing CENTREPIECE venue is the newest addition to the precinct and is a multi-use events space hosting gala dinners, awards & recognitions nights, conferences & expos, pre / post show VIP experiences as well as cocktail events with a capacity of up to 2500 guests. We collaborate with the arenas at Melbourne and Olympic Parks to offer flexibility and creativity for our clients and guests' unique experiences.
This role will be critical for the successful delivery of the diverse range of these very special events at the precinct and have a focus on overseeing and coaching the event delivery workforce (primarily casual) and delivering customer service excellence - influencing every person and every guest experience, whilst working closely with our broader workforce and the allocated Operations Supervisor and Catering Function Team Leader.
About you
There are a few things (ok more than a few) we're looking for in our applicants for this role that will support success in this high-performing team, so if the below speaks to you, we'd encourage your application!
- You've got some great experience so far; in general events, in hospitality and function work. You know how it comes together and what it takes to make it seamless, for staff, clients and guests alike but you're ready for a change
- You're confident enough in your ability to decision make autonomously and give direction to others when needed and you do this politely, professionally and demonstrating great emotional intelligence (you put yourselves in other's shoes)
- You have a super high attention to detail, and you notice the little things that make a difference to the whole experience; things like placement of furniture, crockery, signage, and general cleanliness are all on your radar, all the time!
- You like organising and planning and you're pretty good at forecasting what's needed, either for the venue, the client, the staff or our guests
- You want to be (and enjoy!) being the first point of contact for our clients at the event; your client service and positive approach are why you're so easy to work with
- You're known for your quick thinking and problem-solving abilities; when things go wrong you don't panic or get flustered, you draw on what's available to you in the moment and have an 'I've got this' mindset that calms those around you and if you don't, you're confident in asking for help or guidance
- You might have been working in an Event Co-ordinator or Lead role elsewhere, but you see this as a step up or sideways where you can leverage your existing skills, perhaps on a larger scale that you're used to
- You don't shy away from a challenge; in fact, you lean into it!
- You don't mind admin, in fact you're pretty good at it, and other pre and post event documentation and tasks that you know are necessary to support the team and venue operations
- You are a true team player; you're happy to help others and you can put your own hand up too when things get tricky - it takes multiple people and skillsets to make the magic happen at M&OP (Melbourne & Olympic Parks) and we want someone who understands that
- You enjoy diversity in all its forms and can adapt as needed; the range and types of events we run for different guests and industries is huge in this space! Large corporates, luxury retailers, leading sporting teams and international promoters to name a few who we deliver premium experiences to
- You're a great collaborator and can handle having multiple priorities! You enable a smooth and productive effort between different teams (operations and catering!) when it comes to service of food and beverage, event timings and furniture requirements/movements
- You understand that there can be conflicting expectations between clients and stakeholders, and you can think logically and communicate effectively to reach wanted outcomes.
- You have a strong understanding and working knowledge of legislative and safety requirements and standards and you walk the walk and lead by example
