This is a 5 year, fixed term full time Senior Executive Services vacancy.  

About the Role

The Executive Director Professional Standards reports to the Deputy Director General People, Culture and Standards and is responsible for the contemporary and strategic leadership of the misconduct assessment and investigation, strategic and tactical intelligence analysis, integrity, fraud and corruption detection strategies for the Department of Justice. The position will direct a range of activities aimed at providing crucial input into the management of discipline, integrity and accountability relating to misconduct across the Department.

The key functions of Professional Standards (PSD) are:

Misconduct Assessment, Investigation and Critical Incident Reviews:

  • Assess and investigate allegations of misconduct regarding staff and contractors that may, if substantiated, lead to; dismissal, demotion/reduction in rank and/or classification, transfer or reprimand in accordance with the Public Sector Management Act 1994
  • Determine any statutory requirement to report to the Western Australia (WA) Police Force, Corruption and Crime Commission, Public Sector Commission, Investigations within PSD, in returning matters for local management or the taking of no further action
  • Review of disciplinary matters
  • Undertaking actions required.

    Please provide examples to support your claims.
    • Role Specific Requirements - Substantial managerial experience and knowledge in contemporary investigative practice and corruption prevention ideally within a criminal justice environment. Demonstrated experience in dispute resolution is highly regarded. 
    • Build Capabilities - Proactively develops capabilities in the sector. Implement systems and practices to build the capacity in their business areas. Empower individuals in their learning by enabling a growth-based environment. Accepts responsibility for creating a healthy culture in their business area.

All remaining Essential Selection Criteria will be assessed at a later stage in the recruitment process.

It is a requirement that the position holder is successful in obtaining a negative vetting level one security clearance as a condition of employment and maintaining the clearance for the duration of their appointment in the position.
