This is a key leadership role within the department responsible for setting strategic direction for the resources sector in Queensland. Deep engagement with industry, across government and external stakeholders will be required to provide the thought leadership and policy settings to deliver our strategic objective of increased and diversified private sector investment in Georesources.
The role is accountable for implementation of major government priorities, election commitments and transformative reform programs, which currently include the Queensland Resources Industry Development Plan and the Bowen Basin Concept Study. Collaboration across the Georesources Division and other state and Commonwealth government agencies is essential to ensure benefits of these programs are realised.

Your key duties and responsibilities
In this role you will:
- Foster a high-performing culture by providing professional leadership to the Georesources Policy team.
- Participate and add value as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team with particular focus on delivering against the department's strategic plan and priorities.
- Proactively, provide high quality and timely advice and analysis to key stakeholders on current, emergent and sensitive issues impacting the mining and petroleum sector.
- Formulate and analyse innovative policy initiatives to forecast and negotiate impacts across competing resources to ensure that industry, environmental, community and government expectations and priorities are met.
- Collaborate with and leverage across local, state and federal agencies, industry clients, external bodies and community groups to negotiate and build commitment to delivery of modern policy and strategies.
- Represent the department and Government in a range of high level regional, state and national forums.
- Operate in a highly sensitive, commercially confidential environment having regard to probity, commercial and legal implications of any decisions made.
- Lead a financially sustainable workforce by implementing a right size organisational structure to deliver key outcomes effectively and efficiently within agreed budget allocation and achieving necessary priorities.
- Build the capability of the team to deliver high outcomes in a fast-paced policy environment.
- Ensure the development and promotion of an integrated and flexible organisation in line with corporate strategic planning and performance targets.
- Champion the values of the Queensland Public Service and be an exemplar of accountability and integrity for business group and the department that advocates an inclusive and diverse workplace culture as an aspiring leader.

- Travel away from the centre may be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation for extended periods.
