Exploration Geologist

The Mt Cuthbert Group has a strong track record of development and discovery of copper resources and has a large and highly prospective tenement holding in the Mt Isa and Cloncurry area.

Mt Cuthbert Group successes over the past 8 years:

• The restarting of the Mt Cuthbert Operation (in 2016), bringing the site from care and maintenance to production including refurbishment of the solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW) plant, remediation of legacy environmental issues and re-commencement of mining of the Mount Watson copper oxide deposit.
• Significant exploration success, including discovery and definition of the +5 Mt Crusader copper sulphide deposit during 2016-2021, with exploration and extension ongoing and study currently underway exploring opportunities for transitioning from open cut to underground operations.
• The completion of Crusader Open Cut Mine phase 1 between 2018 and 2020 with excellent reconciliation.
• The acquisition of the Rocklands Project and commencement of recommissioning of the sulphide plant and Rocklands open pit evaluation during 2020/21.

About the role:

We are looking for a technically excellent, motivated, and committed geologist to join this small and successful team based in far north west Queensland. Initially you will be involved at the drilling stage for our Crusader project. This is expected for approximately 6 months and there is a view to further programs coming on line.

Your love for variety will expose you to many aspects of the operation including safe exploration activities and assisting with plans and programs to maximise the growth of Mt Cuthbert Group’s significant tenement package.

Your high attention to detail will ensure data accuracy, producing quality geological and technical documents and reports and the maintenance of the Company’s geographic information system (GIS) and database applications.

Your highly developed interpersonal skills will mean you can communicate effectively across all levels and contribute to a positive working culture.

To be successful:

• You must be motivated to discover ore.
• You must be physically prepared to work in a hot and humid environment.
• You must be mentally agile as these roles may see you transitioning between tasks over short time periods.
• Hold a bachelor’s degree in geology (honours) or equivalent.
• Had exposure to database and map making software applications such as MS-SQL, Access.
• Have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

Ideally, you will also be computer savvy with exposure to GIS (Mapinfo/QGIS) and 3D modelling (Vulcan/Surpac).

You will be involved in programs ranging from greenfields soil sampling to drilling and modelling of complex mineralising systems with a focus on understanding geo metallurgical domains.

Please note, prior to commencement, you will also be required to complete and satisfactorily pass a pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol screening.
