Location Profile

Wodonga Middle Years College is a supportive teaching and learning environment where student needs and backgrounds are reflected in the learning and design of the school. Wodonga Middle Years College (MY College) caters for 1,000 students in Years 7 to 9 on three campuses.

The development of one Middle Years College with two campuses is providing the flexibility associated with larger schools while still maintaining opportunities for the development of strong relationships and knowledge of student needs that is enhanced in smaller schools. The College also provides unique opportunities for teachers to develop extensive teaching expertise in this important stage of schooling - the middle years.

The College has created opportunities for teachers who wish to accept the exciting challenge of teaching in a uniquely authentic middle school program that develops high expectations and levels of engagement and which can make real differences to the lives and aspirations of the districts' young people.

In the Middle Years College:


* Teachers specialise in meeting needs and improving outcomes for middle years students.
* Teachers generally work in a house across year levels.
* There are improved leadership options for Year 9 students.
* The Middle Years campuses have the scope to develop a variety of programs emphasising:

-         Aus VELS

-         AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)

-         AAP ( Academic Advancement Program)

-         Sporting Excellence

-         Civics and Citizenship

* There is a concentrated focus on transition issues with stronger links and co-operation with neighbourhood feeder primary schools and the Wodonga Senior Secondary College.

* Common report writing, timetabling, roll marking and student management software is used at each campus.

* There are expanded curriculum offerings for middle years including: Strong academic studies in all areas of the Victorian Curriculum including classroom and instrumental music.

- The two campuses offer the following language ¿ Indonesian

-         - Strong intensive literacy learning programs run at each Campus in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9.

* Middle Years programs are not restricted by timetable constraints of senior campus requirements.
* Authentic purpose - student outcomes will include the completion or production of tasks relevant to the young people demonstrated through presentations, performance, creation and event management.
* Celebrate and share the opportunities that exist with the work of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus School.
* There are strong partnerships to the wider community including tertiary institutions, community agencies, and business.


Wodonga Middle Years College has three campuses: Felltimber, Huon and the Flying Fruit Fly Circus School.

Selection Criteria

Your application for this position should specifically address each of the selection criteria below.  Short listing and selection will be based upon responses to these selection criteria and key responsibility areas.

SC 1       Demonstrated high level of competency and understanding of DET software systems, including CASES 21 Finance and Administration and associated internal controls, policy, procedures, guidelines and conditions relevant to school-based staff.

SC 2       Demonstrated experience and skills in undertaking accounts payable and receivable, sundry debtors and preparation of profit and loss statements, with a capacity to preform duties consistent with established guidelines and frameworks.

SC 3       Demonstrated capacity to work with collaboratively in a large Administration team, including the ability to support others in their role, as well as the ability to work independently.

SC 4       Demonstrated high level organisational skills, high level written and verbal communication skills, including the capability to deal with complex issues and the capacity to prioritise work flows, necessary to support a busy multi-campus school setting and its business practices.

SC 5       Demonstrated capacity to perform duties that assist with the daily running of the school, including demonstrating high level competency and qualities of initiative, organisation, commitment, punctuality and flexibility.

SC6        Proven record and commitment to professional learning and growth for both self and others.

Role

This role will provide the opportunity to work across a number of areas within the College.  The successful applicant will need to be well organised, have the ability to seek and find, and to support the development of best practice by assisting in the areas of finance and administration of a government school.  This role involves working closely with both the College Business Manager and College Human Resources Manager.  The allocation of specific responsibilities with ultimately be determined by the operational needs of the College and according to the best match of skills and experience to achieve the best outcomes for the wider College Community.

In providing general support across a range of functions, the role provides scope for specialisation in the areas of Accounts Receivable and Student Administration, encompassing an extensive knowledge in Finance and Administration tasks in a school environment. The primary role will be to assist the College Business Manager in managing and refining operations across the College, including knowledge in the areas of Cases 21 Finance and Administration and will require some understanding of OH&S & HR processes.

As well as attending to associated duties assisting with the day to day business operations of the relevant Campus, specific roles will involve:

  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and be able to work independently and within a team, including working closely with the College Business Manager College and the Human Resources Manager.  Personal qualities of objectivity, sensitivity and integrity, along with strong levels of initiative and communication skills, will be required.
  • Under the direction of the College Business Manager and College Human Resources Manager, perform duties that will assist in the delivery of improved learning and teaching practices and the efficient functioning of the College.
  • Have a broad understanding of school operations and the ability to co-ordinate work across a number of areas, including Finance, Student Administration, OH&S and Human Resources.

Hours of work will be 7.6 hours between 8.15am and 4.36pm ¿ Monday to Friday (38 hour week).

Responsibilities

Finance:

  • In consultation with the College Business Manager, have an understanding of how to monitor program revenue and expenditure, and be able to provide support to team leaders and program managers on program/sub program spending.
  • In consultation with the College Business Manager, have a good understanding of financial practices and internal controls across a number of areas including Student Resource Package (SRP), and be able to provide assistance, as required, on day to day operations of the College accounts including ordering, taxation requirements, monthly Business Activity Statements, CASES 21 bank reconciliations, FBT reporting, accounts receivable and accounts payable and sundry debtors by ensuring that any financial functions of the College are effectively accounted for by using ¿Best Practice¿ according to Treasury regulation.
  • Provide assistance to the College Business Manager with end of College year financial reporting for CASES21, as required.

General Administration:

  • Provide assistance to ensure an efficient work flow across the administration offices of the College, by having a thorough understanding of CASES 21 student administration, CASES 21 Finance budgetary processes, financial recording and reporting requirements.
  • Participation in weekly Administration team meetings and actively support other Education Support Administration staff, as required.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all school records and communication systems.
  • Ensure the provision of a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and other staff, as required.
  • Provide administrative support to external service providers, as required.
  • Assist with the processing of student admissions, registrations, enrolments and transfers, as required.
  • Provide required level of administrative support for school events, functions and projects.
  • Demonstrate a high level of competency and understanding of Department of Education software systems including CASES21, EduSafe Plus, eduPay, Recruitment Online, and the associated internal controls, policy, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist with OH&S induction programs for Campus contractors, volunteers and other workers to the school, requiring a knowledge and understanding of  PASSTAB.
  • To participate in Professional Learning activities relevant to position.

Human Resources:

  • Have a general understanding of ¿Best Practice¿ to ensure proper recruitment practices and internal controls are maintained and ensure all policy and legal requirements are met.
  • Have a general understanding of industrial relations policy and procedures to ensure the College is compliant with DET policy, legislation and guidelines.
  • Assist with supply of employment documentation and induction programs for new staff, volunteers and other workers to the College, as required

Management of School Resources:

  • Assist with the delivery of work practices that ensure appropriate occupational health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Other duties as directed by the College Principal, Human Resources Manager and Business Manager.

- A fulltime Education Support employee (48/52) is entitled to 152 hours (20 days) annual leave and 228 hours (30 days) additional paid leave in respect of each calendar year. Part time employees receive annual leave entitlements on a pro rata basis, calculated according to the time fraction worked each calendar year.  Education Support employees are expected to use annual leave entitlements during school vacation periods, unless otherwise approved.  Public Holidays that fall during a period of additional paid leave are not regarded as part of that leave.
