The Domestic Violence Actions Centre (DVAC) is currently hiring Finance Assistant to join the Business Services Team in Ipswich

DVAC has a long history of providing high quality services to women, children/young people and individuals who have experienced domestic, family, and sexual violence in the Ipswich, Toowoomba, and surrounding regions. DVAC works from a feminist perspective. We have a gender analysis of domestic, family, and sexual violence that understands that domestic, family, and sexual violence is a result of systemic power imbalances and inequalities. ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Finance Assistant will work as part of the Business Services team and plays a pivotal role in supporting the Senior Finance officer to ensure the effective and efficient financial management of the organisation.

This position involves assisting with various finance-related tasks, including data entry, financial recordkeeping, and administrative support. 

The Finance Assistant works to uphold DVAC's financial integrity and contribute to its mission of combating domestic violence.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable

  • Generate and issue invoices for services by DVAC.
  • Monitor, record and reconcile incoming payments
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices

Accounts Payable

  • Assist with accounts payable, including supplier management, supplier onboarding, supplier bank and business details checking
  • Assist with document matching, coding, data entry and processing of creditor invoices to achieve accurate financial accounts
  • Process and code direct debit invoices and payments 
  • Responding to and resolving creditors' enquiries in an accurate, courteous, confidential and timely manner  
  • Assist with the preparation of electronic payments for all accounts payable and administration of petty cash

Payroll Administration

  • Assist with payroll processing and statutory payments.
  • Assist with compilation of all relevant supporting documentation and online timesheets as part of payroll preparation.
  • Assist with journal entries of payroll data from Employment Hero into MYOB
  • Provide support in maintaining all employee records/personnel files as relating to payroll preparation.
  • Assist with the administration of salary packaging documentation and processes.
  • Assist with the distribution of all staff information relating to payroll and accounts payable.
  • Assist with the processing of employee commencements, terminations and change of details documentation as pertains to payroll administration.
  • Assist with EOFY payroll reconciliation.

Financial Support

  • Assist with general administration functions including records management, filing and data entry.
  • Participate in preparation of financial information for ad-hoc projects as required.
  • Assistance to reconcile expenditure for Brokerage and Training budgets.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly bank reconciliations including entry of credit card expenditure in MYOB and uploading receipts

The Finance Assistant reports to the Senior Finance Officer within the Business Services Team. Additionally, they are responsible to the wider staff, service users, stakeholders, CEO, and the Board, as well as the employing body. The Finance Assistant adheres to established processes to ensure transparency in all decisions and actions undertaken in their role.

WHAT DO YOU BRING TO THE TEAM?

  • Previous experience in accounts payable, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounts payable/receivable principles. 
  • Experience with MYOB and Employment Hero advantageous or other accounting and payroll software. 
  • Proficient in MS Excel, hands-on experience with spreadsheets and proprietary software.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to communicate effectively with the community and industry.
  • Ability to work autonomously, using initiative and creativity within the role specifications.
  • Current driver’s licence & Blue Card 
  • Committed to the National Standards for Child Safe Organisation.
  • All DVAC staff are required to complete a National Police Check upon successful offer of position.
  • Refer to the Level 3 competencies in the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award.
