The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
A rare opportunity to join a newly formed team tasked with establishing the new Department of Government Services. As a Financial Analyst you will be responsible for providing day-to-day assistance and advice on accounting issues and ensuring the availability of appropriate and timely month-end information and reports to allow for informed decision making.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Financial skills: Excellent financial skills are necessary. This includes:
- the ability to clearly articulate the financial implications of policy decisions and/or other transactions and the provision of advice to senior management on financial management issues to facilitate strategic decision making.
- demonstrated experience in financial accounting and reporting. Interpreting and maintaining compliance with accounting standards, legislation and organisational policies.
- Provide expert technical interpretation of Victorian Treasury accounting policies, legislation and financial accounting and reporting frameworks to support the development of organisation specific policies.
- Stakeholder management: Identifies issues in common for one or more stakeholders and uses to build mutually beneficial partnerships, Identifies, and responds to stakeholder's underlying needs, Uses understanding of the stakeholder's organisational context to ensure outcomes are achieved, finds innovative solutions to resolve stakeholder issues.
- Written communication: Prepares complex briefs, letters, emails, and reports using clear, concise, and grammatically correct language; Edits written communications to ensure they contain the information necessary to achieve their purpose and meet audience needs; Ensures appropriate style and formats are used.
- Project Management: Consults, liaises with and influences key stakeholders, produces detailed project plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for achieving them are clearly specified, monitors performance against objectives and manages project risks and issues, ensures project objectives are met.
- Initiative and accountability: Proactive and self-starting; Seizes opportunities and acts upon them; Takes responsibility for own actions.
