Astron Corporation Limited is an ASX-listed rare earth and mineral sands mining company. The Company’s primary focus is the development of the Donald Rare Earth and Mineral Sands project in central Victoria. The Donald project is the largest zircon resource in the world and third largest rare earth resource outside of China.. Astron also operates a zircon and titanium chemical and metals research and development operation in Yingkou, China. With a 35-year history in mineral sands, the Company is currently preparing for a Final Investment Decision on the Donald Project in September 2024, with construction to commence Q1 2025.
Role Description
We are looking for an experienced Group Financial Controller to lead our finance team and manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance for both Australian and international operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Group Financial Controller will play a crucial role in driving financial strategy and ensuring the integrity of our financial processes.
This is a full-time on-site role for a Financial Controller located in Melbourne CBD.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASX and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and relevant mining industry regulations.
Budgeting and Forecasting: Oversee the development of annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts for all mining operations, taking into account local market dynamics and regulatory requirements. Provide insightful analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
Cost Management: Monitor and analyze costs associated with mining operations in various jurisdictions, identifying opportunities to optimize costs and improve operational efficiency. Develop cost control measures and implement best practices across the organization.
Financial Analysis: Conduct comprehensive financial analysis to evaluate the performance of mining projects in different regions, identifying key drivers of profitability and risks. Provide recommendations to optimize project economics and enhance financial returns.
Risk Management and Compliance: Implement robust internal controls to manage financial risks associated with international operations, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations, transfer pricing rules, and other regulatory requirements. Coordinate with legal and tax advisors to address complex regulatory issues.
Team Leadership: Manage and develop a diverse finance team located across different regions, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and support to ensure the professional growth and development of team members.
Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, board members, investors, and external auditors, both locally and internationally. Communicate financial performance, risks, and strategic initiatives effectively to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- CPA/CA qualification essential with 10+ years post qualification experience
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in senior finance roles within the mining industry, with exposure to both Australian and international operations.
- Strong understanding of international accounting standards, tax regulations, and transfer pricing principles.
- Significant experience in managing complex group consolidation procedures within multi-jurisdictional and multi-currency environment
- Experience in managing reporting requirements of joint venture entities
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in managing finance teams in a multicultural environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders across different regions and cultures.
