Position Purpose

The primary purpose of this role is to facilitate and deliver the timely and accurate provision of corporate accounting and regulatory activities, applying accounting principles and procedures to analyse financial information, prepare financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures are in place. The Financial Controller also helps maintain the financial health of the company and plays a key role in budgeting, payroll, tax, treasury and audit.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with budget preparation and financial forecasts, reporting any variances, as well as regulatory reporting, including the Annual Report
• Financial management and consolidation of financial accounts of two entities (Australia and the U.S) general ledger and sub-ledgers, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, expenses, fixed assets, bank and credit card reconciliations
• Income statement and balance sheet reviews for three entities (Australia, Germany and the U.S), including reconciliations and variance analysis by entity and consolidation of same
• Preparing and publishing monthly financial statements, managing intercompany accounting and reviewing transfer pricing arrangements   
• Cash and treasury management, including cash flow forecasting and FX hedging, tracking transactions and the daily review and update of the internal cash flow report
• Management of tax matters, including the preparation and submission of Business Activity Statements, FBT lodgements, Income Tax & PAYG submissions and consulting with external advisory services in relation to income tax requirements
• Assisting with the half-year and annual audits, including compiling audit requirements, engaging with auditors and answering auditor queries
• Oversee and manage the U.S/Canadian and Australian payroll function including liaising with ADP in the U.S, to ensure employees are paid – and statutory payments/reporting are processed – on-time and accurately. Respond to leave and other related enquiries from employees
• Preparation and management of significant travel expense submissions to major U.S customers
• Oversee and manage working capital management and credit control, including debt management and collections
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting, and contribute to the ongoing streamlining and improvement of financial processes to boost efficiency and create capacity
• Assisting with ESG capabilities, pulling ESG data together, scanning the landscape and understanding what’s happening, as well as orchestrating various stakeholders expectations
• Assist with other tasks, as required

Selection Criteria

• A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role
• Strong understanding of balance sheets, budget setting and revenue and expense allocations, with the ability to track those allocations against budgets and rolling forecasts
• Excellent numeracy skills
• The ability to research technical accounting issues for compliance
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate data, reach logical decisions and recommend an appropriate course of action
• Experience working with external auditors, including leading the successful execution of an independent audit
• Experience with ESG measurement, climate change disclosure rules, ESG plan tracking and ESG reporting policies will be highly regarded
• A strong communicator who can explain complex financial concepts in simple language to a broad audience
• Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise work and meet deadlines
• Strong attention to detail
• The ability to cope under pressure during peak work periods
• A self-starter with a hands-on, can-do attitude and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement
• A team player
• A tertiary degree, CPA/CA and/or experience with Netsuite will be well regarded
