Role Purpose
Reporting to the CFO the Financial Controller will supervise the SCECS payroll and accounting functions to ensure regulatory and policy compliance, accuracy and timely completion of end-of-month/year business processes and reporting.
The role will work closely with the SCECS Finance team to secure the company's financial health by overseeing transaction processing, reporting, analysis, forecasting and internal controls. The Financial Controller will collaborate with Managers to create and implement the annual budgets, prepare and distribute monthly variance and ad-hoc reports and provide guidance on areas for improvements.
Qualifications
● Bachelor in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related degree.
● Current CPA (Certified Practising Accountants) or CA (Chartered Accountants) membership.
Experience Required
● Strong commitment to the traditions and teachings of the Catholic faith.
● 10 years of experience in a similar role or as a senior Financial Accountant using ERP systems.
● Proven ability to collaborate with managers across all departments, as well as external parties such as vendors and customers.
● Highly advanced financial modeling and analytical skills to interpret outcomes and recommend improvements.
● Knowledge of the AASB and ACNC obligations with experience in the implementation and monitoring of accounting business processes, internal controls and finance policy frameworks.
Major Accountabilities
Management Accounting
● Develop the annual budget with financial forecasts and capital investment financial models to support the planned operations and medium to long-term strategic directions.
● Provide advisory support to managers in the preparation of budget submissions, capital investment business cases, funded program evaluation (grants) and costing models.
● Supervise the review and evaluation of financial and budget variance reports. Analyse variations and financial performance data, recommending corrective actions.
● Identify and recommend internal and relevant external data sources, financial and non-financial, to contribute to the improvement of financial performance and management reporting.
● Provide high-quality, reliable and trusted financial management and accounting advice to managers.
Payroll and Financial Accounting
● Recommend and implement financial policies, financial delegations and effective financial control mechanisms, and ensure that these are clearly understood by finance staff and managers.
● Oversee and perform work to ensure the accurate and efficient preparation and timely distribution of the monthly financial reports, financial statements, variance reports and other specialised reports.
● Manage, prepare and report on the fortnightly payroll and provide advice on payroll-related matters.
● Provide analytics on the payroll budgets and variances (FTE and $), potential financial implications and discuss outcomes and solutions with the respective manager accountable for the staffing.
● Recommend financial (including cash management and forecasting) reports, briefs and proposals relating to the organisation’s financial position.
● Communicate financial results that are compliant with policies and external regulatory requirements and which are easily interpreted by stakeholders.
Financial Management Systems (FMS)
● Monitor appropriate FMS policies and controls to safeguard compliance and ensure that financial reports are distributed in accordance with policy and business requirements.
● Evaluate the business processes used to integrate information generated by the existing business systems and review for compliance with internal controls and operational needs.
● Manage and maintain the accuracy and completeness of information retained by the business systems (including CIA, XAP, Deputy, PHRIS, Martian Logic, ExpenseMe Pro, Excel, Project Management).
● Monitor and identify opportunities to enhance business system capabilities to support finance, payroll, compliance and reporting functions.

- A Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related degree
- 10 years experience in a similar role highly desirable
