About your new role
The Fire Management Operations and Community Liaison Officer is a technically specific position that requires a fire practitioner that has knowledge and experience in the application of Fire Management activities, such as active lighting, vegetation management, including site preparation arrangements, and community education (liaison) programs that seek to promote proactive preparedness measures.
The role will assist the Fire and Risk Management team deliver all tasks associated with the hazard reduction burn program; primarily aiding in the development of site-specific burn implementation plans (bushFire Management plans), providing technical guidance to, and oversight of, the specialist contractors associated with the hazard reduction burn program, providing guidance and/or technical support on the development of new Fire Management infrastructure, and contributing to the development, coordination and delivery of the community education (liaison) and notification programs.

We'reseeking someone who is genuinely passionate about fire and land management, conservation, achieving positive risk-mitigation outcomes for the City, community and the environment, an advocate for best-practice, willing to share knowledge, is innovative and capable of traversing sometimes difficult and steep terrain, understands the phases of disaster management, and is excited to work with a highly motivated, dedicated and supportive team. Specifically, we're seeking someone who has:
- Sound knowledge of Fire Management/ mitigation practices, along with an understanding of fire ecology and natural environment/resource management.
- Knowledge or experience working within an agency or organisation that provides Fire Management or risk mitigation activities.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and/or implementing (operationalising) bushFire Management plans.
- Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the City of Gold Coast's natural area estate.
- Experience in planning, coordinating and facilitating educational, community liaison, community engagement and/or volunteer programs.
- Experience in designing and developing educational material; translating technical scientific concepts and processes into accessible and engaging information.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex and technical issues to a diverse range of audiences.
- Knowledge and experience in facilitating stakeholder engagement opportunities, working with government agencies, industry practitioners, research entities, first nation groups and the community.
- Demonstrated experience in being able to prioritise deadlines and work under pressure both as an individual and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Possession of sound physical health to satisfactorily perform the physically demanding duties of the role.
