The role

Reporting to the GM Stakeholder Relations, you will be responsible for leading the development of Sunwater’s future as a culturally responsible organisation, appropriately engaged with traditional owner groups and relevant Government departments. You will partner with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Board and support them make meaningful connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders at State and local level and build their cultural understanding and capability to lead in this space.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing policies and position statements on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander matters to ensure Sunwater has appropriate First Nations Affairs systems and processes in place.
  • Advising Project teams on their Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) and Cultural Heritage Management Agreement requirements that are aligned to the Sunwater’s guidance documents.  
  • Developing the cultural training needs requirements for all levels of the business, including the Board and ELT.
  • Leading the development of Sunwater’s First Nations strategy, and champion and report against the strategy.
  • Actively building the engagement capability and cultural competence of other Sunwater functions, promoting effective engagement with stakeholders through coaching, workshops, and case studies.
  • Representing Sunwater at relevant interagency and industry forums and working groups, and contributing to communication and advocacy materials for stakeholders.

About you

Having Tertiary qualifications in law, social science, or other relevant disciplines, you will have significant experience in managing Native Title and Cultural Heritage matters or in Traditional Owner engagement. You will have the ability to think innovatively and adapt as necessary to resolve issues and ensure the achievement of strategic, operational and project objectives.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in leading, mentoring, and coaching
  • Experience working in the resources and/or infrastructure sectors
  • Ability to influence the delivery of organisational objectives and decision making through advisory support.
