At a high level the purpose of this role is to
- Proactively develop policy positions on issues relevant to the economic development and financial inclusion of First Nations people, in response to current concerns and future needs;
- Support the FNF’s efforts in driving positive and sustainable policy change; and
- Proactively influence the policy and regulatory environment, ensuring that it is supportive of First Nations people.
The role primarily works with the CEO, Chair as well as the COO, external consultants, internal staff, leadership team and external contacts including regulatory bodies, sector stakeholders, governments and industry associates.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor the regulatory and policy landscape and undertake necessary research to understand policy issues and make policy recommendations.
- Develop and implement policy relating to the regulation of the financial services sector.
- Prepare and assist in the preparation of submissions and policy papers.
- Contribute to policy discussions and development in priority areas.
- Assist the FNF in determining and recognising future policy needs for the financial services sector.
Policy Development, Implementation, and Improvement
- Develop policy position papers.
- Provide support in and delivery of specific projects as agreed to from time to time
- Contribute to and write communications materials relating to policy matters in collaboration with the Manager, Marketing and Communications.
- Contribute to the development of policy frameworks, outcomes measurement and methods to improve systems and policy design.
- Review and assess past policy positions and ways of working to continually improve FNF processes to deliver impact
Advice and Guidance
- Provide high-quality written and verbal advice to the CEO, leadership team and board of directors to support FNF’s role in driving policy and regulatory change.
- Provide support to FNF spokespersons to enable them to articulate FNF’s policy positions where required.
- Provide advice and guidance to FNF board Members and staff on issues relating to FNF policy and advocacy matters, as well as regulatory changes.
Stakeholder Management
- Undertake stakeholder engagement with internal and external contacts, industry bodies, Government, and internal staff to always maintain communication.
- Nurture and maintain existing relationships for future growth and development of FNF.
Experience, Knowledge and Capability
- Relevant degree in economics, social policy, law, or equivalent work experience.
- Understanding of the wider economic and political landscape impacting the financial service sector and broader economic themes and how they relate to First Nations people.
- Proven ability to analyse, interpret and synthesise complex legislation and information.
- Previous experience analysing, researching and developing policy positions and recommendations.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt communication styles.
- Demonstrated decision-making ability.
- Strong capability to maintain confidentiality, discretion and diplomacy at all times.
- Proven attention to detail.
- Commitment to teamwork and ability to juggle multiple competing priorities.
- Willingness to work outside standard hours when required, specifically where workload or deadlines require.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Strong computer literacy and willingness to use/learn to use a range of online tools (Salesforce, Slack, MS Office suite etc.)
