IMPACT Community Services is seeking a Founding Principal for our new Special Assistance School, IMPACT Community Academy for Term 4 2024. This is a unique opportunity to build a school and become a visionary as you develop and grow a learning community for young people disengaged from learning through their senior years.
The IMPACT Community Academy Board is seeking an engaging and creative educational leader who is committed to working with a well-being approach and has a genuine enthusiasm for working alongside students and their families. You’ll have the opportunity to choose and build your team of teaching and support professionals. You’ll have access to wrap-around services from IMPACT Community Services for students, their families and educators.
The IMPACT Community Academy delivers learning through a wellbeing lens, providing courses that have the potential to challenge mindsets, encourage growth and transform lives in a way that allows young people to be more adaptable and resilient as they enter adulthood.
The Founding Principal is responsible for creating and implementing the IMPACT Community Academy including:
- Staffing
- Curriculum development and delivery
- Leading the day-to-day operations
- Student welfare
- Strategic direction
- Governance and compliance
Since 1978, IMPACT Community Services in Bundaberg has been a non-profit organisation committed to empowering individuals, creating lasting change and fostering community connections. We provide a comprehensive suite of services including mental health support, employment assistance and skills training. We address individual needs through wrap-around support services, designed to provide sustainable solutions and foster resilience, independence and community reconnection.

Our Founding Principal will lead the establishment and development of the IMPACT Community Academy and set the foundations for its long-term sustainability, success and growth. You will have the support of the IMPACT Community Board and a School Advisory Committee, who will bring experience and expertise in the development of young people aged 15 – 18.

Core Competencies (Qualifications, skills and experience)
- Proven ability to connect with and support disengaged students.
- Demonstrated understanding of curriculum, assessment and student welfare issues including child protection within secondary education
- Minimum of three years’ leadership experience in a Special Assistance School or alternative education school or within a Special Education Unit
- Skilled in collaboration and community engagement with experience in creating positive and meaningful relationships with young people, parents, staff and Boards.
- Demonstrated achievements in school administration, financial and budget management.
- Experience in starting and implementing a new learning program and curriculum.
- Demonstrated capacity to build the professional capability of staff
- Skilled in collaboration and community engagement with experience in creating positive relationships with young people, parents and community partners.
- Understanding of Queensland Curriculum Assessment Authority requirements
Licencing and Administrative Requirements
- Queensland Driver’s Licence / C Class
- Working with Children check (Blue Card)
- National Police Check
- Registered teacher under the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 or eligibility for full registration
