Kingston Heath Primary School located in Cheltenham (20km from Melbourne CBD) opened its doors in 1976. Our current enrolment is 243 students. We are at the start of a growth cycle, with the capacity and intention to grow to 350 students over the next 5-10 years.
We are an accredited IB PYP (International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme) School and in 2019 received numerous commendations during our IBO Evaluation Visit. By the end of our students’ primary school education, our aim is for every child to embody the IBO Mission, making the world a better place through their curiosity and action-orientation, skills, passions, and knowledge. The IB PYP framework guides our learning approaches, our community focus, and our strategic priorities.
Our KHPS School Strategic Plan 2020-2024 focuses on strengthening our positive climate for learning, our instructional practices, and our vision and values in line with the IB PYP and DET FISO. A coherent whole school implementation of Kagan Cooperative Learning and Win-Win Discipline and the leadership of evidence-based mathematics learning are significant elements within our plan.
Specialist programs include Physical Education, Italian, and The Arts (one semester each of Music and Visual Arts). Teachers and students operate lunch time Clubs programs. Camps are organised, beginning in year 2 with a school sleepover. We are involved in two targeted DET initiatives: a School Improvement Partnership to inspire highly effective teaching of mathematics; and DUET, a program to enhance the music program at KHPS. Students in Years 3 to 6 purchase Chromebooks for 1-to-1 learning opportunities within the classroom and our foundation students start their school life with I-pads.
Our facilities are situated on 5 acres of land; these include three open plan Learning Centres, Library, Art Room, Music Room, two Mod 5 buildings, and a Performing Arts Centre that houses a professional kitchen. We employ a part-time grounds person to maintain the school grounds and our substantial vegetable garden.
TheirCare operates before and after school care and a holiday program. School Council is highly committed to the outcomes of the whole school. In the next twelve months, School Council seeks to undertake a review of the uniform policy and uniform, and are pursuing facilities upgrades, sponsorship, etc. to maximise opportunities for our students.
Our greatest asset at KHPS is our people. We are introducing evidence-based approaches to staff professional learning. We seek to empower all voices - students, staff, community – in their learning and toward the betterment of our school. We embrace a growth mindset, understanding that talking about our mistakes makes us stronger. We expect all members of our community will work in partnership with one another to define and reach common goals, and to celebrate our collective achievements.

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
