RASWA is a not-for-profit member-based organisation with a core purpose to grow opportunities for Western Australian Agriculture and food. RASWA has played an important role in WA for more than 190 years and is firmly focused on the future with a new strategy and a number of exciting opportunities.
RASWA has a broad role including:
- Coordinating the State’s most important annual community agricultural celebration, the Perth Royal Show, that celebrates our heritage, culture and community spirit;
- National competitions that benchmark excellence in premium food, wine and beer, agriculture, animals, and the arts;
- Venue management of Claremont Showground which hosts up to 100 events each year; and
- Promoting and celebrating Food and Agriculture through education, events and industry collaboration.
The Role
The General Manager – Agriculture and Events is a new and exciting role responsible for the leadership of a vibrant and viable Perth Royal Show and developing Showground events with commercial and community stakeholders.
This includes implementing strategic initiatives to develop the Perth Royal Show, food and beverage programs, the Perth Royal Food Awards, Agricultural education and partnerships, showground venue business and growing commercial and community opportunities.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the CEO and as an integral part of the Leadership Team, areas of responsibility include the following:
- Strategic oversight of Perth Royal Show and RASWA events
- Development of Showground venue business area;
- Driving innovation and community engagement with Perth Royal Show competitions and agricultural education programs;
- Development of new event opportunities and revenue streams while expanding community engagement;
- Enhancement and development of RASWA’s reputation as a commercial and community venue; and
- Driving key initiatives to innovate and enhance RASWA’s community and education programs.
About You
Ideally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Significant experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team in managing delivery of operational outcomes across a range of portfolios;
- Tertiary Qualifications in Business Administration, Management or related discipline;
- Proven experience in a leadership role, ideally in events, tourism, community or commercial context; and
- Experience in and a passion for Agriculture and Food.

- Outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and a natural ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders;
- Highly developed financial acumen and ability to evaluate, manage and implement new opportunities and present formal business cases;
- Exceptional planning, project management, measurement and reporting skills;
- A balance of creative thinking and being able to solve problems in a practical way;
- A passion for leadership, teamwork and performance development;
- A drive for customer service and community engagement; and
- Demonstrated knowledge of and strong commitment to risk management.
