About the role
We are seeking a senior health care leader to join the Calvary team in the role of General Manager at our Calvary Hobart Private Hospitals. Calvary provides two hospitals in Hobart – Calvary Lenah Valley and Calvary St Johns. With a combined 296 inpatient beds, our hospitals provide a range of essential health services to the community including Emergency, Maternity, Theatres, Cardiac Cath Lab, Oncology and Rehabilitation.
Reporting to the Regional CEO for Tasmania, you will bring to the role significant experience in strategic and operational management in an acute health care facility, with strong stakeholder engagement, financial management and business acumen.
Accountable for the operational performance, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of services, ensuring that they are patient and outcome focused, financially sustainable and operating with the highest quality standards.
As a strong people leader you will build a high performing leadership team, who fosters and develops an engaged workforce and positive culture. You are an innovative thinker with a continuous improvement mindset, and a focus on growth and sustainability.

About you
- Tertiary qualifications, preferably post graduate, in management, business, health or related field;
- A strong commitment to the philosophy and mission of Calvary and ability to work within and promote the national strategic direction and corporate vision of Calvary.
- Proven high-level leadership and operational management experience, preferably gained in the management of an acute health care service.
- Experience in managing complex relationships, in particular developing effective culture and engagement, inspiring commitment and developing capacity.
- A strong commercial focus, together with proven high-level business development skills and experience, strong financial management skills and business acumen within the health and community care context.
- Ability to foster and develop strong relationships with our Visiting Medical Practitioners.
- The ability to design, lead, implement and evaluate significant change processes for effective outcomes.
- Experience in overseeing the management of local service contracts.
- Exposure to developing and managing public sector partnerships.
- A demonstrated awareness and understanding of the current and likely future environment in which the service operates, including the political context.
