About the role

As the General Manager, Quality you will play a crucial role in our Global Product Strategic Executive team by shaping strategic policy for the group and defining quality's integral role in our larger strategy. Guiding the Global Quality Team across diverse regions, you will navigate us towards strategic and financial achievements, fostering open dialogue and decisive actions for our shared success. You will drive profitable growth by enhancing product quality and expanding our reach into new markets while aligning with Breville's brand positioning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participate in the Global Product Strategic Executive team to help shape strategic policy for the Group and define Quality's role in the strategy for the larger group.
  • Lead the Global Quality Team, across multiple geographies, focused on delivery of the Group's strategic and financial business goals. The incumbent must be able to quickly garner the respect of the leadership team and the broader organisation. They will achieve this by bringing valuable skills and insights to the business, demonstrating a preparedness to have open and frank discussions and make the tough decisions.
  • Drive profitable growth by enhancing the existing quality of product offerings, exploring new innovative quality for the engineering team to allow a greater reach into new geographies and channels given Breville's brand positioning.
  • Deliver annual plans for the total business that include strategies to address global, regional and local quality opportunities and challenges.
  • Generate profitable growth by driving internal efficiencies and synergies across the global business and within the different markets and working through the following:
  • Provide strong and motivational leadership: to be an accessible leader, inspire employees through relentless drive to delivering performance, underpinned by regular feedback, reward strategies and transparent personal development opportunities. Grow capability within each market, ensuring a robust talent pipeline to support succession planning for key roles. Building a culture that inspires performance at all levels and across multiple geographies will be essential. Develop, explore, and build great partnerships with suppliers and other external stakeholders to ensure flexibility in supply of product and excellence of support services.
  • PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT. Engineer quality into new Breville products by working as part of the Breville Product Development group to specify components, design, material selections, testing protocols, and quality control documents to ensure product safety and to minimize warranty costs. Develop strategies and processes for the Quality and Engineering department to ensure Breville's product development is strategically advantaged relative to its competitor set.
  • FAULT DIAGNOSIS. Further develop and enhance the strategy of global fault diagnosis to rapidly diagnose product faults as part of the product launch process. Develop new strategic processes that maximize global synergy from regional service centres and ensure Breville's fault diagnosis process is aligned to the Global brand strategy.
  • PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT. Develop a global strategy for maximizing returns on product improvement initiatives. Lead a team of engineers and work in conjunction with Breville Product Development to quickly address product faults and implement improvements. Overall ownership of the quality process to take product concepts through to successful commercialization with heightened quality. It is critical to deliver best in class electrical appliances through innovative product design and development.

  • Track record of success in running a fast-paced, dynamic and exciting multi-geography consumer goods business; must possess a global mindset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation and building a successful product pipeline.
  • High level of financial acumen, with profit & loss accountability.
  • Entrepreneurial, able to identify and capitalize on opportunities in multiple geographies.
  • Strong strategic thinker combined with the commercial mind to translate strategy into clear executable plans. Able to execute strategy in an ambiguous and changing environment.
  • Well-developed and proven negotiation skills.
  • Willing and able to undertake international travel.
  • Outstanding communicator and a key influencer with the ability to articulate the company's strategy and vision to all stakeholders.
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, Master or better.
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering management experience, exposed to best practice quality processes and manufacturing.
  • Leadership and communication skills.
  • Analytical skills and market knowledge.
  • Systematic approach to Problem Solving.
  • Strong business acumen.
