Royal Hobart is recognised as Tasmania’s premier members’ Club and championship course and has hosted several major state and national events, including the 1971 Australian Open.
Located at Seven Mile Beach, the Club is 20 kilometres from Hobart on the Eastern Shore of the Derwent River.
The Royal Hobart Golf Club was founded in 1916 and the Royal Charter was conferred in 1925.
It currently has 1150 members across all categories with a $2.5mil annual turnover.
The roleThe Club is seeking a dynamic customer-focused individual to take on the role of General Manager. The General Manager will be responsible for directing and managing the activities of the Club to ensure the provision of high-quality and cost-effective services to members and visitors under the general guidance of the Board.
Reporting to the Club Captain, but with a high degree of operational independence, you will manage the physical, financial, and human resources of the Club. You will also provide the Board with proactive and timely policy advice and secretariat support services and ensure that the Club’s standards, values, and traditions are maintained.
Office Management, the Course, Catering, and Pro Shop are all managed by Club staff.
The ideal applicant will have had experience in the development and/or implementation of strategic management outcomes, a strong financial background, with proven experience in the development of effective working relationships with community groups and members.
You will also need a demonstrated track record in leadership and people management and will take personal responsibility for creating successful outcomes for the business.
Experience in the Golf Club industry is not essential, although a sound knowledge and understanding of the game of golf is preferable.
As General Manager you will:
- Ensure the Club operates efficiently is maintained to the highest standard, and exceeds member and guest expectations.
- Further improve the profitability of the Club by ensuring all departments are run efficiently, achieving revenue targets whilst maintaining budgeted expenses, particularly wages and cost of goods.
- Facilitate and drive a professional and dynamic team through all departments, delivering quality and consistency in food and beverage activities, golf, and customer services throughout the Club.
- Act as an ambassador for the Club, by maintaining and expanding relationships with external stakeholders.
- Contribute to and implement Board strategy, including the Strategic Plan.
- Be the Club’s Public Officer and Board Secretary, ensuring the Club remains compliant with statutory obligations, Rules of Association, By-Laws, and any relevant regulations.
- Financial Management of all aspects of day-to-day Club operations, budgeting and reporting including a progressive analysis of re-forecasting as required by the Board or Finance Committee.
- Provide innovative and inspiring leadership to ensure best practice initiatives and member and guest expectations are met by all onsite team members.
Ideally, the successful candidate would have:
- Ability to lead and manage staff at all levels.
- Minimum Five years experience as GM or assistant GM in a Club-related environment or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong information technology skills and knowledge.
- Experience in delivering strategic objectives in a stakeholder environment.
- An appreciation of the Club environment and culture.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in management at a senior level.
