In this retained exclusive search, we're seeking a dynamic Head of Commercial to join the 2.5 GW Gippsland Skies Offshore Wind Project team, reporting directly to the Project Director. As one of five key leaders in this ambitious project, you will ensure that all development aspects are commercially optimised to meet shareholder expectations and requirements.
Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing all commercial and financing aspects of the project, with a particular focus on negotiation of all major contracts in the best interests of the project over the full lifecycle, and leading the offtake process. You will ensure that all development, technical, and contractual work streams are commercially viable, bankable, and compliant with the consortium's Feasibility Licence and other relevant commitments.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the commercial and financial dimensions of Offshore Wind project development and management, with a proven track record in risk assessment and compliance.
Experience with development frameworks, including process management, contractual negotiations, and project obligations, will be advantageous. This role requires a strategic thinker with robust project management and risk management skills to navigate and mitigate commercial risks effectively.
The day-to-day
- Lead negotiation of key project contracts agreements, including land
acquisition and grid connection, ensuring commercial terms are effectively negotiated and implemented; - Drive the delivery of a commercial strategy for route to market for the project, including:
- Identification and assessment of potential route to market options;
- Assessment of project readiness and economic attractiveness relative to government procurement processes;
- Development of offtake strategy and approach to offtake auctions.
- Lead the commercial interface between the Project Company and potential third party offtakers;
- Drive the strategy to obtain relevant registrations and regulatory approvals and establish market-facing capabilities;
- Develop and lead Financing Strategy for FID, including:
- Building of relationships with financial advisors/lenders;
- Development of preferred financing structure;
- Provision of financial analysis required for shareholder decision on FID.
- Maintain relationships with shareholders, including oversight of shareholder reporting and resolution of ad hoc shareholder queries.
- 7-10 years of experience in a commercial role with an investor, developer, or operator of large-scale energy infrastructure projects, ideally in the offshore oil & gas or Offshore Wind sector;
- Strong commercial background with expertise in financial modelling and various project appraisal methods such as NPV, cost/benefit analysis, and IRR;
- Comprehensive knowledge of the offshore energy industry and its standard contractual frameworks is ideal;
- Ability to quickly grasp and apply local regulatory frameworks (state and federal), and support their development to benefit the project and shareholders;
- Exceptional organisational skills to manage complex, multidisciplinary tasks and communicate risks and issues effectively to the project team, shareholders, and external parties;
- Strong understanding of both shareholder and project requirements, with a commercial mindset to identify, communicate, and mitigate risks across technical, development, procurement project aspects;
- Experience in participating in offtake procurement processes.
