An excellent opportunity is available for a Governance Research Assistant to join the Governance, Risk and Compliance department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
We are looking for a Governance Research Assistance to support the Head, Governance, Risk and Compliance and Compliance Manager. The job entails general clerical and document work on a variety of legal and compliance-related areas.
Key Responsibilities
Policy
Drafting key institutional policies, procedures and guidelines.
Managing and drafting trainings on an e-learning platform.
Reviewing and editing policies, procedures, contracts, board papers and guidelines.
Compliance
Updating compliance register with relevant legislation.
Updating modern slavery statement.
Contract review and drafting.
Assisting with COVID compliance on an ad hoc basis.
Research
Corporate Governance Research specifically related to large Australian corporations and charities.
Memorandum writing in relation to various governance and compliance issues.
Legal research on areas including privilege, confidentiality, integrity
Ad-hoc and meetings
Assisting company secretary and in-house counsel with legal and compliance related tasks as needed.
Assisting governance risk and compliance team with specific areas of work including human and animal ethics.
Administrative tasks including formatting excel spreadsheets, creating timelines, liaising across teams.
Attend all daily meetings and ensure members of the team are kept up to date.
Attend all GRC workshops, online trainings and organised meetings.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Legal research skills.
Verbal and written communication.
Team player.
Ability to work autonomously and take initiative.
Attention to detail.
Curiosity and a willingness to learn.
High level of proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite (Sharepoint, Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams)
Personal Qualities:
Previous in-house experience or other legal experience is preferred, but not essential.
Ideally 2nd or 3rd year University Law student.
An interest in the intersection between law and medical research.
A desire to work at a leading organisation with a collaborative and supportive team.
Terms of Appointment
This position is a casual position at $38.57 per hour.
