Job description

(HE04) $69,043 to $75,677 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

Fixed term, full time position available for 12 months.

The Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery Group is interested in understanding chronic rhinosinusitis and head and neck cancers. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the Group is taking research from bench to bedside investigating mechanisms of disease progression for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and also include the identification and validation of new treatment strategies using cutting-edge in vitro and in vivo techniques.

Located at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and working under general direction of senior staff members, the Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting in several research activities within the Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery Group to ensure smooth and successful performance of the research program.

This position involves assisting in the coordination and execution of key experimental procedures in the ENT laboratory.

The incumbent must be able to work with human and animal tissues, carrying out various immunology, cell biology, and microbiology assays.

To be successful you will need:

  • Familiarity or commitment to work with clinical research projects including working collaboratively with researchers and key internal and external stakeholders. This includes ability to travel across different hospital sites.
  • Experience in working in the laboratory with human and animal tissues and blood with knowledge in immunological assays (such as FACS analysis), microbiological assays, cell culture and sequencing techniques highly valued.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills including being meticulous in carrying out research protocols and recording keeping.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products and data entry, further programming or statistics capabilities also highly valued.
