Services include but are not limited to structural engineering, civil and drainage engineering, structural reports, and construction stage inspections, council and government submissions.
With consistent and continuing business growth, the need has now arisen for a number of new positions within our team:
- Graduate Structural Design Engineer – to support the Director, Senior Structural Engineer and General Manager in driving the business forward.
- Senior and Junior Structural Designers/CAD Technicians to support the Principal and Senior Design Engineers with technically strong Structural Design documentation.

As a Graduate Structural Engineer at Thomas Consulting, your responsibilities will include:
- Development of concept and structural engineering design and documentation
- Undertaking and/or assisting in construction and forensic structural inspections
- Collaborating with the wider team, which include engineers, building designers, drafting staff and sub consultants
- Supporting senior engineers to manage and develop client relationships
As a Structural Designer/CAD Technician at Thomas Consulting, your responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for the execution of design work assigned by the Structural Engineers with extensive training and mentorship provided for junior draftspersons
- Completion of drawings and documentation of assigned projects
- Ensure conformation to Thomas quality standards, Design and Drafting / Modelling are maintained
- Proactively collaborate with other engineers and technicians to generate designs
- Check design drawings in accordance with the client’s specifications, relevant Australian standards, codes and location regulations;
- Take responsibility for the correctness and quality of work, seeking guidance and advice from senior engineers;
- Attend design status and coordination meetings
Your skills and qualifications will include:
- Graduate Structural Design Engineer applicants: completion or near completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent), recognised by Engineers Australia, allowing application for MIE Aust upgrade
- Senior and Junior Structural Designer/CAD Technician applicants: ability to demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit software packages with residential and commercial experience desirable
- For applicants new to the industry, you will be well supported in your training as you work towards proficiency and given opportunities to expand your skills
- For applicants already well established in the industry, ideally you will have Structural Design experience, working on residential, commercial and industrial projects
- Possessing excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills
- Being a proven team player
- Being committed to your continued personal and professional development
- Possessing a current driver’s licence.
