Job description

headspace Southport, located on Yugambeh land, is a place where young people can get free and confidential support for their Mental Health, access non-judgemental information and support around drugs or alcohol and access to a GP.

The service, operated by Lives Lived Well a not-for-profit organisation, is an early intervention service aiming to provide youth-friendly, accessible, and effective care, treatment and support to young people aged 12 to 25 who are at risk of developing, or are experiencing, their first episode of psychosis.

We currently have full time ongoing vacancy for an outgoing and engaging Group Facilitator to join our team. This is a new position in our service and will suit someone who wants to make this role their own.

About the role

In this key clinical role, you will develop, coordinate, and facilitate group programs that target the needs of young people accessing headspace Southport and headspace Upper Coomera. This role works within a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals utilizing a bio-psycho-social framework model of service provision.

You will develop the content and facilitate or co-facilitate a variety of groups for young people accessing headspace Southport and headspace Upper Coomera covering a range of topics including DBT, life skills, anger management, problem solving, conflict resolution, amongst others.

You will also need to be confident to conduct risk assessments, including assessment of suicide risk and violence and provide follow up support, referrals and treatment as required, including presentation at allocation meetings where a young person is only involved in group programs.

Your engaging, empathetic, and passionate approach will see you relate to young people in a manner which is relevant and appropriate to their developmental and cognitive level of functioning and provide services in a youth friendly manner. You will be able to liaise with and involve where appropriate family and friends of young people.

Utilising your prior clinical experience, in this role you will also provide high level support to students and junior staff within the team.

The remuneration for these positions will be commensurate with the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience and will range between gross $97,379 to $101,787 per annum (pay rates effective from the first full pay period in July) plus superannuation and salary packaging benefits.

About you

In addition to your strong clinical skills, you thrive on collaboration with others and have the ability to self-reflect. You are passionate about helping young clients who are navigating Mental Health challenges and difficult life experiences. You can work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team and utilise the appropriate evidence-based techniques to support your clients.

Additionally, you will also possess the following skills and experience:

  • Degree in social work, psychology, occupational therapy, counselling, or Mental Health nursing.
  • Current Registration in AHPRA or eligible for AASW or relevant credentialing authority
  • Recent demonstrated strong experience working in the Mental Health field.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health, evidence-based interventions, and clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate group-based skills training activities.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments (e.g., suicide risk and violence).
  • Highly developed communication (including written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills, including the ability to prioritise clinical and administrative duties.
  • Able to engage with young people and maintain effective relationships with staff, clients, carers, and stakeholders.
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
