About the role
We are looking for an energetic and driven Portfolio Financial Controller – Hard Goods/Financial Services, ideally based in either Melbourne or Brisbane. Reporting directly to the Portfolio Director, this role will support the PD and the Business Unit Leaders by providing overall leadership for all portfolio financial and compliance activities.
This key role currently has 2 direct reports, with a wider finance team of about 10 located around the world.
Responsibilities
Some of the key responsibilities for this role will include:
- Deliver pro-active, professional financial and decision support to the Portfolio Director, Business Unit Leaders, and Vela at national and international level
- Ensure the integrity of financial reporting and analytics; direct the finance department in revenue analysis and P&L monitoring, planning and forecasting
- Support the business unit managers in forecasting, budgeting, pricing, planning and general commercial direction
- Create and implement operational finance practices to drive sustainable improvements across the portfolio
- Support the Portfolio Director with negotiation of business propositions, valuations, deal negotiations, and preparation of new acquisitions’ financials
- Ensure a reliable system of internal controls are in place to adequately safeguard the company’s assets
- Develop action plans to measure and analyse financial results, review business performance against forecasts and budgets, assist with corrective actions
- Support the business units with the development of pricing structures, and assist in contractual relationships with customers and suppliers, proving commercial support as required
- Lead the selection, management, and development of team members, building and maintaining a high performing team
About You
You will have a strong technical finance background, initiative to drive process improvement, and enjoy the challenges that come with leading a remote/hybrid global team.
You will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Degree level qualification (CPA).
- Experience as a Financial Controller, CFO or equivalent, with team leadership experience.
- Highly computer literate, with reference to accounting and management software and their application in a project-based, software engineering environment
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills. Comfortable interacting, informing, and motivating people at all levels of the organisation
- Ability to demonstrate agility and flexibility in overseeing a global portfolio
- Solid business judgment capable of driving an organisation to the right results with a focused, action oriented, pragmatic approach
- High degree of personal initiative and organisational agility to provide customer focused services and processes to non-financial managers and staff at all levels
- Intellectual horsepower with a broad knowledge of software and information technology business models is an advantage
- Exposure to business mergers and acquisitions is desirable
