The role
As the Head of Data Modelling, you will play a critical role in the team and be a trusted & strategic advisor to the executive & mentor to the data modelling team. This role is responsible for leading the Data Modelling function – conformed, normalised, dimensional ensuring the adherence of data models to the industry reference model in place at NAB.
The day to day responsibilities will include:
- Directly accountable for leading a team of data modellers, including internal and external contractors
- Review and approves data models and governance processes
- Set strategic direction for tools and processes related to data modelling
- Vendor and 3rd party technology provider management
- Lead decision forums regarding choices and trade-offs related to delivery objectives and platform standards
- Assist in resolving technical complexities related to data modelling approaches
- Actively partner with leaders from Architecture, Delivery, Data Governance, Privacy, Platforms, and Security and the business to build strong partnerships and ensure data modelling approaches are pragmatic
- Drive efficiency to improve velocity of business outcomes, usability and quality of our enterprise data while reducing cost to build and run
- Leadership of team members including hiring, coaching, mentoring, developing, and promoting resources
- Ensure the team meets delivery deadlines for providing data models on time to Delivery squads coupled with adherence to Delivery SDLC timelines, ensuring high quality
- Exceptional in-depth experience as a Senior Leader in Data Modelling in a large complex organisation, ideally within Financial Services
- Proven experience managing Data teams within large complex programs containing multiple streams, across multiple regions, with multiple vendors
- Extensive experience in delivering large scale big data programs on cloud
- Demonstrated experience in software development lifecycle
- Extensive exposure to enterprise system architecture, design, and developments
- Experience with Industry Reference Models such as FSLDM and IFW and in-depth knowledge of Data Governance and Standards
- Proven capability in building, leading, and managing large teams between 20+ people
- Able to drive a high performance culture that values collaboration
- Strong communication and relationship skills across the breadth of stakeholders including Senior Executive
- Able to demonstrate a strategic mindset and be decisive with high decision quality
- Understands and considers issues in the context of overall business strategies
- Tertiary qualification in computer science or related discipline. and preferably a post-graduate qualification (i.e, Post graduate diploma / Degree / Masters).
