About the PIMS Role:
Based in Mackay with some travel to sites required, the Health & Safety Superintendent will facilitate and contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of PIMS Group Safety and Health strategy. The incumbent will play a leadership role in promoting a positive safety culture and will provide timely safety and health advice and support to the management team and workforce.
About the Core Responsibilities
Comply with the: - PIMS Groups Health and Safety Management Plan; and
- All Health and Safety policies.
Ensure that:
- Work practices and systems across the site are consistent with requirements of PIMS Health & Safety Policies & Procedures.
- Developing, auditing, and reviewing Project Safety Management Systems
- Developing and reviewing risk assessments
- Developing Medical Management Plans
- Systematically analysing incidents and documenting the outcomes and action plans
- Pro-actively implementing and demonstrating Risk Management principles and actions.
- Heighten awareness of health aspects such as fatigue management, drug and alcohol awareness and processes involved with physical and psychological impairment.
- Contributing to the monitoring and reviewing the effectiveness of our control measures to manage risk to Health and Safety.
- Owning and championing a strong safety culture, embedding continuous improvement, and enhancing our productivity programs.
- Demonstrate strong leadership communicating performance goals, department targets and provide regular and objective feedback on operational performance.
Productivity:
- Collate and analyse data captured from incidents, make recommendations, and implement corrective action in coordination with management and clients.
- Implement the Company’s Health and Safety strategies.
- Evaluate compliance with the relevant site/company SHMS.
- Advise on Health and Safety and risk management processes.
- Provide advice to employees, managers and contractors on Health and Safety related matters as required.
- Ensure work practices and systems used are in compliance with all Management Plans and any other statutory requirements.
Stakeholder Management:
- Assist with the completion and submission of Statutory, Government and Industry requested statistical data.
- Provide high quality, timely advice, and report on Safety compliance matters.
- Liaisee with contractor Safety personnel, auditors, and consultants to maintain site compliance.
- Promotee PIMS Groups reputation through effective liaison and representation with the various local and regional contractual partners.
Business Improvement:
- Assist with the Strategic Safety Planning for the projects/company.
- Identifying opportunities for cost efficiencies and minimisation
- Identify and participate in Continuous Improvement Projects
- Identify areas of safety and health deficiency or non-compliance
- In conjunction with the management team, implement necessary Action Plans to ameliorate that which has been identified, including any relevant training.
Qualifications, Experience and Other Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the coal mining industry
- Practical understanding of Coal Mining Legislation
- Demonstrated experience working with on-site contractors.
- Experience in an underground mining environment would be highly regarded.
- S1/S2/S3 Supervisory Qualification
- G2 Risk Qualification

- High level of communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
