The Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Coordinator works closely with the site to provide practical HSE advice and coaching to establish and maintain a safety culture.
The role is responsible for contributing to the implementation of our Work Health and Safety Management System at the SCHÜTZ Yatala plant.
Working collaboratively with the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) team, you will drive improvements to achieve risk reduction / management, injury prevention and continual improvement, supporting and maintaining quality and food safety best practice standards on site.
Responsibilities include:- Working closely with all functional teams to implement and maintain the HSE systems for SCHÜTZ Australia, Yatala
- Continuously assess the work environment for injury prevention, by engaging employees to work a culture of continuous improvement.
- Create and implement a HSE staff training plan.
- Maintain the site emergency response readiness including equipment training and practice exercises.
- Manage the environmental risks on site including transport of waste and waste water and reporting to environmental authorities.
- Support the site permit to work program, including training of employees and contractor induction.
- Support the Site’s Chain of Responsibility requirements for transport.
- Perform risk assessments for tasks, chemicals and plant used on site, recommend actions and ensure these are closed out.
- Investigate and record all incidents, workplace injuries and near misses on site, determining appropriate corrective actions.
- Support the business with internal audits for Health Safety and Environment
- Prepare reports, data and KPI information to allow managers to make informed decisions for the business.
- Maintaining files and documentation to meet internal and legislative requirements.

- Passionate about driving continuous improvement initiatives, to improve safety, efficiencies and reliability.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment and driving a safety culture (highly desirable)
- Knowledge of chemical hazards (desirable)
- Comfortable working and liaising with management and operator level employees.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate cross functionally to build strong relationships and influence key stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and record keeping skills.
- Intermediate – Advanced in Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, Excel)
- Experience in maintaining a HSE system or certification (desirable)
- Experience in auditing (training provided)
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety / related discipline and/or equivalent experience(required / must be willing to acquire)
