We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager who is passionate about people and safety, to manage the regional health and safety advisor team, ensuring that the health and safety requirements of operations in the Australian business are understood and effective support is provided.
As a direct report to the General Manager - Health and Safety, you will be experienced in leading teams, outcome focussed, with a proven track record for delivering against objectives and key performance indicators, and able assist in developing future health and safety strategies for the business.
To be successful, you will need to be an excellent communicator with an engaging style, who thrives when coaching and influencing employees and leaders to improve safety for the overall business. The role will be quite mobile, with the need to travel into regional South Australia weekly, with some regular overnight accommodation required – a company vehicle will be provided for the role.
Duties
- Provide advice to the business on the management and control of health and safety hazards and risks in line with health and safety policies and standards
- Provide day-to-day leadership, advice, coaching and support to the Health and Safety Advisors to ensure an effective and professional support service is provided to the organisation
- Act as the safety delegate for crisis management participation
- Undertake regular formal and informal worksite visits and inspections to proactively drive health and safety improvement and to build relationships
- Contribute to the development of the Health and Safety Annual Improvement plans and implement across the operational business in conjunction with operational teams
- Develop plans for the implementation of changes to the health and safety management system for the operational business, including preparation of evidence required to demonstrate compliance
- Develop regional advisors and operational leaders to manage health and safety hazards and risks
- Lead significant incident investigations, monitoring and analysing injury / incident trend data and recommending remedial actions
- Provide input into developing systematic solutions
- Provide support to regional management and personnel in supporting injury management outcomes whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times
- Manage the completion of management system internal audits, and identify corrective actions in consultation with the operational business for implementation
- Lead development of safety communication for operational areas of the business
About you
- Diploma level qualification (or above) in workplace health and safety or suitably aligned discipline
- Knowledge of South Australian Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice
- Knowledge of Self Insurance Performance Standards
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in a safety role
- Previous experience in a senior safety role managing others
- Experience in a self-insured environment is desirable
- Experience in a multi-site organisation is desirable
- ICAM lead investigator qualification is desirable
- Lead auditor qualification is desirable
- Current drivers license
- Ability to travel regularly with some overnight accommodation required
