Purpose of the Position:
To support BQ in the delivery of their Performance Programs which includes:
- National Performance Program
- U16s and U18s North and South State Teams and U20 State Teams
- State Performance Program
- Ivor Burge and Wheelchair High Performance Programs
- Volunteer Performance Coach education and development
Duties/Responsibilities
Key Functions:
- Review, develop and implement the Queensland style of play throughout our Performance Programs that facilitates success at a Nationals level.
- Plan and deliver the National Performance Program, including the formation of Individual Performance Plans per athlete that are reviewed quarterly in-line with the individual player’s development and goals across the State of Queensland.
- Lead and assist in the delivery of the State Performance Program throughout Queensland; consistently reviewing the program to ensure that it is best practice within the sporting field.
- Ensure that all athletes and coaches within the State Performance Program receive specific development feedback pre and post program.
- Assist in the development of the Performance and Pathways operational budget
- Assist in the development of the Performance and Pathways business plan
- Conduct program reviews after Nationals competitions to consistently enhance the programs.
- Work with the Performance and Pathways Administration Manager to ensure that the BQ Programs off-court operations are complimentary to providing an elite High Performance program and complying with BQ’s Safety Policy.
- Lead in the development, monitoring and up-keeping of the State Coaching depth chart and database. Monitor and review the State-wide player’s depth chart, reviewed every quarter.
- Develop and maintain communication links with Basketball Queensland affiliates, the community, and schools throughout Queensland;
- Collaborate with and maintain a positive working relationship with the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) to deliver services to identified athletes and coaches;
- Collaborate with Basketball Australia and the Centre of Excellence and other like-minded organisations to develop cutting edge programs;
- Work with national coaches to provide development opportunities for their athletes;
- Lead the Selection of State and Development Team coaches and managers;
- Lead, review and develop the athlete Selection process for all Queensland Teams competing at the Australian Junior Championships
- Other Duties as required.
Key Performance Indicators
- Success of Basketball Queensland teams, athletes and coaches on a National and International Stage
- KPI’s identified in Strategic and Business Plans are met;
- All training and competition environments are best-practice in the areas of child safety and workplace health and safety.
- Programs delivered within agreed timeframes and budgets;
- BQ services regarded by stakeholders (both internal and external) as well organised, efficient, professional and customer focused;
- Project plans developed, maintained and reports generated as requested;
- Client surveys/feedback is positive and appropriate to maintain the programs delivered.
- 1. At least 7 years’ managing and coaching experience in the delivery of player and coach development programs at either a basketball sporting association or a State/National Sporting Organisation
- 2. Hold a current Performance Level Accreditation with a willingness to progress their development as a coach through the recognised accreditation pathway.
- 3. Experience and ability to deliver best practice technical and tactical elite coaching on court to athletes and coaches.
- 4. Demonstrated coaching expertise ideally to national standard.
- 5. Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to be client focused and able to communicate and negotiate with a broad range of people at all levels
- 6. Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- 7. Interpersonal and relationship-building skills who can keep their staff and volunteers, motivated by being approachable, compassionate, diplomatic and have good listening skills
- 8. Customer-focused with the ability to understand issues from the customer’s perspective, be solution focused and a calming influence in circumstances where customer expectations have not been met
- 9. Forward-planning and strategy – with the ability to look at the big picture to put strategies in place to achieve the team’s vision and missions
- 10. Be a problem-solver and can think on your feet and solve problems as soon as they happen while remaining calm and focused as you come up with solutions
- 11. Proven skills and knowledge in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), use of internet and e-mail and ability to update websites
- 12. Hold or, the ability to hold, a positive notice for working with children within Queensland
- 13. Hold a current drivers license
- 14. Have your own, roadworthy motor vehicle
