Job description

Morawa District High School (DHS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent and enthusiastic Home Economics Assistant.The Home Economics Assistant assists the teacher in delivering educational programs relating to cooking and textiles. This may include preparation of ingredients, cutting out fabric and helping during food service, ensuring safe and hygienic storage and handling of food and equipment. Under teacher direction they may assist with individual or small group demonstrations and be responsible for preparing and maintaining the learning environment, managing equipment and resources, assisting the teacher with cleaning and storage of items, and ensuring safety is maintained. Additionally, they will oversee classroom and storeroom resources, maintain inventory lists, monitor stock levels, and liaise with relevant staff for procurement and purchasing.As the Home Economics Assistant, the suitable applicants should have a proactive, positive approach to the role and will ideally be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. Suitable applicants should be able to prioritise tasks well, follow processes and protocols required by the learning area, such as food hygiene and safety protocols when preparing food for practical classes and organising the food room. The ability to use initiative, organisational skills and work efficiently to complete tasks is highly regarded.Morawa DHS is a proud Independent Public School, providing a strong, sustainable education from Kindergarten to Year 12.   • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
