APTC is a centre for training excellence, providing Australian-standard training qualifications and skills across the Pacific and Timor-Leste. As Australia’s key Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) investment in the region, APTC works collaboratively with TVET stakeholders to achieve training delivery outcomes and reforms to national and regional TVET systems. 

APTC has country offices in Fiji, Vanuatu, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste and representatives in Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu. The Country Offices are supported by a range of services provided from a regional head office located in Suva, Fiji.

Your Opportunity

As the Hospitality Training Package Advisor, you will lead and project manage the development and implementation of the PNG National Hospitality Training Package, as directed by the Hospitality Industry Skills Group (ISG), PNG National Skills Development Agency (NSDA) and the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST). 

This position reports to the APTC PNG Director Academic and Training.

This opportunity is until 30 September 2024 with the possibility of an extension.

The position will be based primarily in Australia and will involve some travel to PNG.

This position is engaged as an independent contractor at a day rate of $605 and the contractor will be responsible for managing any tax obligations, Goods and Services Tax, superannuation, and insurance that apply in relation to the services delivered. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of draft National Hospitality Training Package, identify the gaps & required improvements and provide an analysis on the scope of work to be completed.
  • Develop any required endorsed components for the Hospitality Training Package, such as required qualification/s and identified documentation,  as requested from the Construction ISG, using project management techniques.
  • Develop stakeholder relationships by effectively communicating with and presenting to the PNG Hospitality and Tourism ISG, NSDA, DHERST stakeholders and technical specialists to manage industry and government expectations on the development of the final product, ensuring that it will meet the desired need.
  • Communicate with the APTC Director Academic & Training and the PNG Hospitality and Tourism ISG Chair to advise upon progress of deliverables, risks and milestone expectations, on a regular basis.
  • Upon endorsement from the PNG Hospitality and Tourism ISG, you will be required to design, develop and present non-endorsed agreed components to the PNG Hospitality and Tourism, including but not limited to trainer guides, mapping documents, delivery and assessment strategies.
  • Where requested, you may be required to design, develop and update assessment tools ensuring they meet the assessment requirements of the relevant qualification.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

1. Excellent understanding of TVET Training Packages and experienced in writing high quality TVET training & assessment resources  

2. Project management experience with demonstrated ability to achieve successful project outcomes and an ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines

3. Significant industry experience in the Hospitality and Tourism industry

4. Excellent analytical and writing skills, demonstrating fluency in the English language, accuracy and attention to detail.

5. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and work well with local industry stakeholders, preferably in a culturally diverse context. 

Mandatory Qualifications/Requirements

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or Cert IV or higher national TVET based qualification
  • Minimum of five (5) years overall experience within a technical and vocational education organisation, including experience in developing courses/educational materials
