Bloomsbury Publishing, a leading book publisher, is seeking an HR Officer to support its friendly, passionate and close-knit team based in the Sydney CBD.

Join our team as a key player in HR and administration, collaborating closely with the Australian Managing Director and in consultation with our UK Head Office.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing and implementing innovative HR initiatives. This includes recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, L&D, policy and procedure administration, staff welfare and retention and reporting.
Beyond HR functions, you will contribute to various office tasks, such as team event planning, facilitating IT support, managing the rollout of new IT projects, ensuring meticulous record-keeping, and handling general employee communications.
Regular communication will be a key aspect of your role, involving coordination with our third-party payroll company, the Department of Human Services, and our IT support teams in both Australia and the UK.
This position offers a dynamic opportunity to engage in diverse aspects of HR and administration, contributing to the overall success and growth of our organisation.
To perform this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in a role with similar functions (perhaps you’ve been an HR Generalist; or you’ve worked as an Office Manager with HR responsibilities)
- A general understanding of statutory requirements and accepted HR practices in NSW, Australia
- Experience recruiting staff
- Ability to develop and sustain working relationships at all levels, inside and outside the company
- Ability to minute meetings and coordinate and track progress of significant projects
- Can pick up new systems quickly and is able to adapt to and champion technology changes
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

You will need to participate in occasional evening calls/meetings with our UK Head Office.
This is a part-time role with a mix of working from home and in the office. Your normal hours will be 17.5 per week, and can be worked over 3, 4 or 5 days. You will need to be in the office at least 7 hours each week.
