The role will also partner with contractors to support the safe delivery of services and projects.This role is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic qualified safety advisor, to make a positive impact to Yarwun Operations, or someone who is ready to take the next step in their career and work within the sector.Key roles and responsibilities:Educate, communicate and engage with site leaders, operational personnel and Rio Tinto HSE groupsAnalyse data and ensuring compliance with the Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards and legislative requirementsSupport and participate in the investigations to prevent repeat incidents occurringWork across the health and safety function to support the standardisation and simplification of systems and processesRecommend key control methods (considering the hierarchy of control) for health and safety risk reduction and evaluate control effectivenessParticipate in and facilitate risk register reviewsSupport the delivery of strategic safety initiativesLead and support business wide health and safety improvement initiativesConduct health and safety assurance and governance activitiesWork with contractor partners to support safe delivery of projects in alignment with the Rio Tinto Health and Safety Management SystemSkills and experience required:Must have relevant health and safety qualification or demonstrated experience working in an operational health and safety role, coupled with a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safetyStrong engaging and influencing skills, with the ability to coach leaders and to think strategically across the business value chainAn ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing competing priorities supporting multiple stakeholder groupsIntermediate computer skills including experience using reporting tools and Microsoft Office SuiteAdaptability, flexibility & a solutions based mind-setHigh level of integrity and values based decision makingStrong communication and analytical skillsMust be either an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or hold full Working Rights within AustraliaWhere you will be working:Yarwun is located 15 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year. Employing around 700 people to support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance and shutdown activities. Thanks to its 'Industry 4.0' focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialing new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and the use of drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto's innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
