Job Summary

The Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with HSEQ regulations, implementing safety & quality programs and promoting a culture of safety and quality across all levels of the organisation. 

Responsibilities

ISO Accreditation Management and Compliance Assurance:

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of ISO standards relevant to Health, Environment, Safety, and Quality (HESQ).
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards through regular audits, reviews, and updates to existing procedures and processes.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of external audits for ISO accreditation.
  • Assure full compliance with all EHS regulations from Australian government and Municipal, as well as Ingersoll Rand’s EHS requirements.

HSEQ Management:

  • Develop, implement, review and maintain HSEQ policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and to align with Ingersoll Rand strategies, policies, and local industry standards.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, inspections and audits at all branch sites to identify areas of improvement, mitigate risks/hazards and adhere to HSEQ protocols.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and industry best practices to ensure compliance and update accordingly where required.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, near misses, and non-conformances to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Manage corrective actions and ensure its timeliness and effectiveness.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, environment and quality practices.

Client Portals/Tender Management: 

  • Maintain and update HSEQ documentation on client portals.
  • Ensure all client-specific HSEQ requirements are documented, accessible, and implemented.
  • Assist in providing responses for HSEQ sections in tender documents.
  • Ensure all HSEQ requirements are met for new projects and contracts.
  • Collaborate with the tender team to provide accurate and comprehensive HSEQ information.
  • Regularly inspect all branch offices with regional to detect existing or potential safety, health, and/or environmental hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow-up to ensure measures have been implemented
  • Conduct ride-alongs with employees to uncover risks and coach/mentor employees on safe driving practices.
  • Develop and implement programs for pollution prevention/sustainability.
  • Participate in cross-sector EHS compliance audits when required.

Reporting:

  • Compile and analyse incident data to identify trends and patterns and make recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare and submit reports on HSEQ performance, including incident statistics, to management and relevant regulatory bodies as required.

Workers Compensation Management:

  • Manage workers' compensation claims and ensure timely processing.
  • Liaise with insurance providers and legal advisors regarding claims.
  • Monitor and report on workers' compensation costs and trends.

Injury Management:

  • Oversee the injury management process, including initial response, investigation, and follow-up.
  • Develop and implement injury management plans to support employee recovery and return to work.
  • Maintain accurate injury records and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

Sub-contractor Management: 

  • Evaluate the HSEQ performance of suppliers and contractors and ensure compliance with contractual requirements and applicable standards.
  • Collaborate with procurement and contract management teams to establish HESQ criteria for supplier and contractor selection and evaluation.

Training:

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on HESQ policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide expert advice and support on HSEQ matters to all staff to ensure understanding and compliance with HSEQ requirements.
  • Facilitate and lead HSEQ Committee and seminars to promote continuous improvement and awareness.
  • Prepare and roll out monthly Toolbox Talks, Safety Newsletter and Safety Alerts for distribution across all Branches. 

Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science or related field.
  • Proven experience in in a similar HSEQ role, preferably in a relevant industry such as manufacturing and/or construction.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and audits.
  • Strong understanding of HSEQ regulations and standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong ethical standards.
  • Familiar with HSEQ management systems and software tools.

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

  • Ability to do travel within New Zealand and Australia (up to 50%)
