The Opportunity:
As In-house Counsel you will be a key player in ensuring the efficient and effective management of contracts throughout their lifecycle. Working closely with the General Counsel and internal stakeholders, you will contribute to the negotiation, review and amendment of contracts, and provide advice to various departments to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements. This role involves collaboration, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process improvement. This position can be located at any of our offices including, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Maroochydore.
Responsibilities:
Contract Management:
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of contracts from initiation to completion.
- Ensure contracts comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.
Negotiation and Review:
- Collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to negotiate contract terms.
- Review and amend contracts as necessary, addressing discrepancies or concerns.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with Discipline Leaders and other departments to align contract activities with organisational objectives.
Process Improvement:
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement within the contract management lifecycle.
Contract Training:
- Prepare and deliver contract training sessions as needed to ensure team members understand and follow best practices.
Query Response:
- Address and respond to queries related to contracts, ensuring clear communication and understanding of contractual obligations.
Tender Support:
- Assist in the preparation of tender responses by providing expertise in contract-related matters.
Contracts Register Maintenance:
- Update and maintain an accurate contracts register for tracking and reference purposes.
Contract Playbooks:
- Regularly update contract playbooks with the latest industry standards and company practices.
Policies:
- Assist with the review and development of company policies.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Law
- Unrestricted Practising Certificate
- Proven experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
- Strong understanding of contract law and legal terminology.
- Experience in Engineering Consultancy/Construction Contracts (not mandatory)
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate legal principles to a non-legal audience
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Proficient in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
