THE ROLE
Join a large legal team in a big organisation, with their office located in Brisbane CBD. You will work closely with industry leaders to provide advice on some of the most complex and contentious matters which will involve representing your client in the District, Supreme and High Courts in some of Queensland’s largest and most complex litigation cases. We have two roles available in different teams, one with a PIPA focus and the other specialising on Workers Compensation matters:
Public Liability Team -
Personal Injury claims, public liability matters, Historical child sexual abuse claims and medical indemnity claims;
Matters before all State and Federal Courts and Tribunals;
Providing representation at and advice on dispute resolution procedures;
Drafting pleadings, affidavits and other court documents;
Appearing as Counsel on interlocutory applications; and
Advice, submissions and correspondence in relation to liability, evidence, quantum settlement, costs or other aspects of matters arising from the carriage of the action.
Workers Compensation Team:
Workers compensation claims in relation to the Workers’ Compensation Act 1990; WorkCover Queensland Act 1996; and Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
You may also gain some exposure to asbestos and dust diseases
Other complex claims where, for example, psychiatric injury arising from bullying or harassment, trauma, excessive workloads or asbestos exposure has been alleged.
At interview, candidates can decide which team is of most interest to you. Both roles will involve:
conducting complex civil proceedings
providing high-level legal advice
dispute resolution including negotiating settlements, conducting conferences and mediations
conducting complex trials in all jurisdictions
identification and evaluation of risk management in personal injuries litigation.
To be successful you will have the following background-
At least 5 Years post admission experience in the relevant areas;
Coming out of a defendant insurance team (Plaintiff candidates may also be considered).
