UnitingCare is currently seeking an experienced Insurance Specialist to join their Risk and Assurance team.
Your part in our UnitingCare team:
The Insurance Specialist will provide subject matter expertise to the business all matters related to insurance, including claims management, insurance placement and reporting.
The appointment of this role will support and enable the three strategic goals in Aged Care and Community, Family and Disability and Hospitals by ensuring efficiency and innovation in claims management as well as placement of a cost-effective insurance program that is fit for purpose in these growth areas.
- Ensure timely notification to the insure of any matters that may give rise to a claim in accordance with policy requirements.
- Manage the day-to-day Tier 1 or 2 general insurance qualification.
- Medical malpractice claims management experience
- Medical industry knowledge
- Liaise with the Uniting Church Australia Queensland Synod for management of all insurance claims above our authority/internal deductible.
- Develop, implement and maintain claims management processes and support documentation (manuals and procedures).
- Claimant consultation relating to recommendations, advice and progress updates.
- Represent UnitingCare at meetings, conferences, hearings, mediations and informal legal conferences for claims.
- Identify claims with possible recovery from Third Parties and pursue accordingly.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement to deliver best practice claims management.
- Ensure reporting is provided to relevant internal (committees and Executive Leadership Team) and external parties on a quarterly basis.
- Support the UnitingCare and ARRCS insurance renewal placement ensuring accuracy of data and timeliness of responses to and from the Synod Insurance Team and Broker. Verify and validate premium amounts and internal allocations in consultation with the Synod Insurance Team and relevant internal stakeholders.
Please note, this is a 12-month contract role with hybrid working options available.

Essential
- High School Completion
- General insurance and/or claims management experience
- Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to interpret policy wordings and apply accurately
- Ability to build and develop business relationships
- Comply with relevant state legislation
- A willingness to expand knowledge in risk management methodologies, processes, and systems
Desirable
- Tier 1 or 2 general insurance qualification
- Medical malpractice claims management experience
- Medical industry knowledge
