Sovereign Insurance Australia are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Insurance/Accounting Assistant. Reporting directly to the Financial Operations Manager, this role will be pivotal in supporting the financial activities and operations of our organisation.

Duties & responsibilities:
- Process and maintain accurate records of financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable.
- Perform daily bookkeeping entries, including general ledger maintenance, and conduct required reconciliations.
- Process insurance business, including sales, cancellations, claims, and disputes/settlements.
- Assist with enquiries from customers, clients, and partner insurers, providing exceptional customer service.
- Preparation of monthly accounts and end-of-month analysis and reporting.
- Preparation and lodgement of periodic BAS, Stamp Duty, Withholding Tax, and other applicable returns, liaising with relevant revenue agencies when required.
- Manage client bordereaux and conduct analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist management in compiling and organising data for risk assessment and binder review.
- Analysis and entry into accounting software for periodic insurance reporting.
- Assist in preparing financial reports and statements.
- Prepare periodic reporting to regulatory bodies such as ATO, ASIC and APRA.
- Assist management with audits and responding to enquiries from regulatory agencies and auditing firms.
Experience & attributes:
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Between 2-5 years of experience in an accounting or finance related role; insurance experience highly regarded.
- Familiarity with insurance regulations and industry standards.
- Experience in preparing financial data and reporting for boards, committees, and external regulators.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Keen problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
